Just wondering, I see a lot of posts here about how it took 2 or 3 ablations to get Afib under control. Is there anyone out there that was blessed with a single Ablation cure? It would be nice to hear that for a change since I am looking towards an Ablation soon (I hope)

One Ablation cure?
I think the medical definition of 'cure' is to be free from disease for a period of 5 and more years. "Define ablate: to remove or destroy especially by cutting, abrading, or evaporating". Rogue electrical pathways may be destroyed but others can pop up over time. Think ongoing treatment, not cure.
Ablation is not a cure, as I understand it. It is a treatment to help control symptoms which seriously affect QOL and may come and go.
I am sure there are people for whom one ablation worked - but they probably didn't hang around this forum after they became symptom free.
My friend had her first and only ablation over two years ago. Apart from a couple of tiny blips and a very few octopics very rarely she has been af and meds free since with the exception of anti coagulation which she chose to stay on.
She had been troubled with breathlessness and fatigue but that has gone since ablation. Hope that helps.
There are a few but probably not on the forum any more as they don't need us! Good news seldom sells .
My ablation kept me 100% AF free for 8 years. Then AF came back but not as bad. Overall that's 13 years, is that a cure, not by my definition but it's pretty good though.
Im 4 years on and still Af free, ( he says with fingers crossed )
I had my ablation at the beginning of last September, came off betablockers a few weeks later. No AF, for 6 months, then out of the blue in March went into AF for about 12 hours, then nothing until I woke up with it this morning, but hopefully it will be short lived and I'll be back in NSR very soon. I felt brilliant almost immediately after the ablation and have done ever since apart from the two blips. Well worth having done.
Only 13 months AF and drug free so far after new one catheter cryoablation in Sussex County hospital. Have learnt that they do a deeper colder, longer freeze.... Fingers crossed it holds up as my Q of L has improved 100% and I am so grateful I was given the opportunity to have it. That's me, but obviously all our AF is different but I am pretty sure most people feel it is miserable to live with AF but , ablation is def not a cure and not for everyone, but I think it is all maybe a matter of luck to some extent and personal health situations as to the long lasting success of the "first one" . I would say that it is only after a year now, that I am beginning to have the confidence to hopefully make a helpful and possibly encouraging and reassuring reply sometimes here. Am starting to feel quite passionate about helping anyone who is suffering with AF as unless you experience it, quite difficult for others to understand how dreadful and utterly miserable one can feel at times and as I said for me, having an ablation so far, has changed me and my life I reckon.....I feel like I am living it again maybe.....
With good wishes
Sarah
Thank you Sarah. I know how hard it is to start believing it is gone, seems you get knocked down about the time you think all is well. I have been blessed with two whole days no flutters, palpatations, or Afib. I have learned to not get my hopes to high, but also I believe it can be taken away by God permanantly. I will have the Ablation if it is offered unless I truly believe it has gone away for good, then I MIGHT consider giving it some time without meds to see if it is still there, lurking. Just my outlook, not for everyone I know. I wish you well and hope you have slain the monkey!
I had an ablation Dec 2015, one short episode of AF when I was ill with a stomach bug. I was told before the procedure I might need a touch up but my EP was very thorough so at the moment I certainly don't. No meds except Rivaroxaban.
Best wishes.
