There are always differences in what you use in the UK and what we have in the US. I would follow my Doctors advice. Living with chronic pain can turn you into one. I hope yours is controllable. Pam
For the elbow, the bad news is you need to stop knitting until it is better but ice packs for ten minutes a couple of times a day help. Mine is caused by gripping my paintbrush and recurs with too many long painting sessions - loved knitting too but use aggravates the tendons.
My GP has prescribed paracetamol and co codamol when required for pain. I was also told that Volterol-type gels could be used very sparingly. It's best to see your GP and get advice.
You don't say if you are on Warfarin - I assume you are - if so, as you say you can't take Ibuprofen or other similar anti-inflammatories.
I'm on Warfarin and have been for 7 years - In terms of pain killers the only thing you can do is ask your GP for a prescription for Co-Codomol 30/500.
I had that for osteoarthritis in right knee and after partial knee replacement surgery I had it for pain control for some 4 weeks to 6 weeks while I was mending. And I can tell you that pain is real pain !
The other rule is cold for swelling, heat for other pains, like joint pain and pain patches are fine - for a limited period. Also, so is the TENS Machine, also for limited periods.
Hi Gwyn, when I was first in hospital and diagnosed with af the cardiac consultant asked what i used generally as painkillers, I answered ibuprofen which I had been taking quite regularly for neck and headaches.
He said never use ibuprofen again now you have af. I have heeded his words ever since. Only paracetamol for me unfortunately. Strangely though a lifetime of headaches eased from then on, perhaps beta blockers helped somehow too.
Good luck with finding a substitute as knee pain is awful my husband tells me.
Ice the Knee back and front 10 min both sides and repeat twice also you could try turmeric tea there are loads of recipes on the internet but make sure its safe for you to take talk to your GP also check these sites webmd.com/vitamins-suppleme... and drugs.com/drug_interactions...
I was able to relieve my knee pain, caused by arthritis, by 2 visits to a physical therapist and about 45 min per day of recommended exercise. Pain is about 90% better than a month ago. You should check with your M.D. before starting exercise program, however.
I agree with Jdunk in using exercise to relieve knee pain. I could not walk down the stairs without pain in my right knee, plus my knee was swollen. After a few months of aqua-fit, my knee went back totally normal. Now I feel no pain at all. I took NO drugs for pain.
