OK up at 7 am., quick shower, slice of toast and cup of tea and off to Smeatharpe rally test day this morning. Two Sudafed cold capsules to help with the cough and a strong cup of full fat coffee with loads of sugar when we arrived. Caffeine does affect ectopics and SVT believe me. For a minute there I thought I was back in AF but I was shaking too much to take my pulse. Had to get out of the car and walk a mile up the runway and back to use some up before I felt normal again.

Just be careful at this time of year with cold remedies as they are full of caffeine and not helpful if you do have AF. Like I said Stupid Boy Pike, at your age you should know better. Mind you who in their right mind gets out of a warm bed to go and stand in the middle of a WWll airfield in mid January. They must all have been chosen as the coldest places on Gods earth!

Back in the warm now and leaving the team to their own devices.

Bob

Sudafed is a no-no for my heart rhythm problems but all the rest of it would just be toooo much. Hope you have recovered.

Keep forgetting I'm not 35 any more but always have to support your sons especially when the team has your name on it. Log stove crackling, nice glass of milk to soak up the adrenaline and back to normal thanks.

I'm the same Bob, I won't have full fat coffee in the house any more. My heart races so much after drinking it I end up passing out

Jomama profile image
Jomama in reply toMammaCass

Hate to sound dumb, but what is full fat coffee? I'm from the US and I haven't heard that expression. Does it mean coffee with cream?

Fearnie profile image
Fearnie in reply toJomama

Coffee with caffeine! Go for decaffeinated options.

Jomama profile image
Jomama in reply toFearnie

Ok got it! I don't even drink decaf as I don't want to take even the smallest amount of caffeine to set me off. I'm super sensitive. Hopefully after healing from my upcoming ablation I'll be able to drink it again!

I am too Jomama! I absolutely do not touch it or alcohol.... I will not do decaff either! Just take no chances, tired of cardio versions and ER.

Somebody tell me the point of decaf coffee please. Proper coffee or none at all.....surely decaf defeats the object !

Remember, the smell of coffee is far better than the taste, so just close your eyes & whiff the pot.

just an English expression for strong non de caff. Preferably black and stand you spoon up in it with all the sugar, Gives you the twitch even if you don't have arrhythmias. in other words a morning after cup.

Glad your system has settled back down now. As they used to say on NYPD Blue - be careful out there!!!

Hill Street Blues Jay. Still got loads of video boxes. I was in love with Victoria Hemmel (joyce Davenport) and Sam with Furrillo. Jo Spano who was Frank's no 2 is now in NCIS as FBI agent Fornell. Great ground breaking TV back then.

That takes me back Bob, your wife and I have the same taste in men! End of the world to miss an episode of Hill Street Blues, music going through my head now. Hope your cough gets better soon, mine has taken ages to go.

Smeatharpe! Smeatharpe! Smeatharpe! If you say it a few times it sounds like a donkey.

Small world...my cousins Guy and Hilary used to live there not far from the old wartime airfields. My Aunt Gwen lived in Honiton at Tremaine Close. Sweet town. Fond memories.

Couldn't resist chiming in. Watch out for that cold medicine! You are obviously sensitive. Me too.

Cheers!

In fact it was known as RAF Uppottery after the next village along and was a typical bomber station. It was made famous by "The Band of Brothers" TV series as it was from there that Easy Company left on D day for their drop on St Mare Eglise and subsequent fight all the way to to Bergtisgarten . They still have occasional re-enactment days where men dress up in WWll US Army uniforms and play soldiers. The old control tower (watch tower in US parlance) still stands forlornly near the runway crossing and a number of wartime buildings are still extant. There is a local airfield association I understand. KIrsty Allsop lives in the village I am told and is a vociferous complainer about any motoring event held there so most event days there is a police speed trap in the village. Since we all know about it . only the locals get caught. haha

I love old airfields and like to study their history and the people who flew and died from them in defence of this sacred isle of ours many who came from far afield including USA. Canada. Australia and New Zealand as well as our former colonies..

As I usually write in any visitors books. "Born too late to help but forever grateful".

P.S. Truthfully, that airfield gave me the creeps!

I always read the posts every day but don't often reply to them. I am always impressed with your very helpful advice. After reading your post I felt I had to respond. You know better than most not to take cold cure remedies with 'ticker' issues, but I'm glad all is well with you - Don't do it again, we need you on this forum to keep us informed.

So sometimes your feet aren't always on the ground. Glad it was ectopics and not a return to AF. Have you heard any more about the repeat meeting at Exeter, I missed the first one since I was ill with D&V. MaryC

@Stupid Boy When you need an antihistamine for a cold, sinus infection, bronchial congestion etc. try this. Natural Stuff: A product called "D-Hist" made by a company called Orthomolecular products. Aliquid called "Sambucol"--many companies make this,. It is a preparation of black elderberry extract--ex. 1 tablespoon 3 times a day. A substance called "Oregano vulgaris"--the best brand is GAIA liquid caps. and some Olive Leaf extract (with oleopurin at 18%). The d-hist and the oregano are masssive antihistamines. The ingredients in the d-hist are: quercetin, vitamin C, stingin nettles, N-acetyl cysteine, and gluthiaione . These different ingredients inhibit different causes of histamine. The oregano also kills more bacteria more effectively (bad bacteria not the good ones) of any herbal medicine. The sambucol elderberry will stop a cough and throat congestion, kills flu And B and also N1H1 ( whater that flu is called ). You can also takre n-acetyl cysteine separately as in Jarrow NAC- 500 mg. It has an affiniity for the lungs where it de inflames them ; also excellent is reduced form of glutathione--also from Jarrow--500 mg. caps. This removes the severe inflammation which is causing your symptoms. It is the greatest thing for a cold and allergy.Don't overdo any of these things. If you think it wise ask a dr. about these, but I do not think they know about it. At any rate. DO NOT HAVE CAFFEINE, OVER THE COUNTER MMEDS, SUGAR unless you are trying to land in an intensive care unit. The supplements mentioned may be purchased form swansonvitamins.com and from iherb.com both of which ship internationally to every country in the world except places with armedconflict , terrorist attacks, no diplomatic relaitons with the USA etc. Be aware--although it is an excellent antihistamine stinging nettles can stop warfarin from working--so you might avoid it. I do not know if the tiny amount in "d-hist " will cause this to happen, when it happened to me I had taken a 480 mg. tab of stiniging nettles _a big no no for me .

Chose more wisely you will feel much better.

@StupidBoy my mistake it is the olive leaf extract thqt is the biggest destroyer of pathogenic bacteria than anything else in herbal medicine not the organo (which is better for viruses)--sorry about thqt again check i if it is okay for you tot ake this stuff.
