I've only used it for insect control in the garden. It is small, sharp pieces that harms soft bodied insects when they crawl over it. I don't know how eating it would help AF.

When I was a kid in the 80s.. thats what we used in the pool filter to filter out .."stuff"... its a "lime" by product,. very fine.. I see no use for it with human consumption.. but Im not a doctor....

We used to use it for flea and bug control in Queensland, it was mainly used in our swimming filter, we used to go through kilos of the stuff and when the filter was back washed, it looked like liquid clay coming out. I have used it on the cats rubbed it in and then combed it through their fur (this was when they were tiny) I preferred to this rather than flea powder, but I have feeling it is in flea powder. not sure about over here. I would hesitate about eating it, after seeing what it looks like in the pool filter. I have a feeling it is clay based. i could be wrong. i have eaten many wonderful and weird things, but think i would prefer to chew on chalk, but that is for another discussion.

If you want to flush your system, teaspoon of bi carb soda with a glass of water first thing of a morning.

Yeah that's it Fidgetsmum - when I lived in Sydney my late brother in law worked in sales for a company that distributed it. His company did sell a lot of this type product to the swimming pool industry. Can't recall it being used as flea powder.

Yes I have been using this product for around 8 months now. I have IBS and I have researched and followed a modified Fodmap diet. I had trouble with constipation and bloating which is a byproduct of IBS and have tried various remedy's with scripts from my doctor but this was by far the best natural product with no chemicals. This problem did aggravate my SVT/AF.

I only take 1 teaspoon before dinner with water and it keeps me regular I stop it every 3 months for about a couple of weeks, and then restart it. They feed this to livestock every day in their food, and have been doing this for years. My niece got the same product from her Naturopath, with other ingredients and it cost her heaps - this is a cheap as chips.

I had never even heard of it - I find it interesting that it kills bugs yet is good for IBS? Doesn't it kill the flora in your gut? How can that be good?

After googling it seems it is a powdered sedimentary rock of diatoms - tiny sea creatures of bygone eons - which contains 85% silica which I know is used for detoxification. I will ask my nutritionist.

Its cat litter, but don't let that put you off. I have had baths with it (Just to be clear from the health shop not the pet shop - though I doubt there's a real difference). OK in the bath instead of radox. Didn't affect the AF at all.

Its derived from silica, which is not cat litter although they may use it for this (what a waste), a lot of people may scoff at this, which I did a first too but if it works and is not dangerous to your health then its better by far than some medical substitutes which I have tried many and I might add can be more addictive. Yoghurt is also good for gut health yet is a bacterial fermentation - figure that one out. IBS is not just a matter of flushing your system either, If you had it you would recognise the difference.

This question was posed by EngMac, if you have no experience of it, then at least look it up properly before making a comment.

Think we put it in the pool filter

From other comments it sounds a bit like Enterosgel? No, see it is absorbed whereas Enterosgel is only an absorbent. What was your interest in it?

I have used this it is good for IBS but make sure it is food grade as this is for human consumption. It is also good for fleas on animals or bedding. It works by taking all the moister from their bodies and so dehydrates. I have never heard of it being used for AF. This is used in Florida by vets as it is non toxic.

I think that all comments are valid as an aid and an alert even if people haven't taken it!!!!!

I use DE every now and again. It works great on some issues but Im afraid to report no realized benefit to AF, and maybe a detriment if used incorrectly. The good is it can remove certain toxins and metals from our systems. The bad is, it removes good things such as Calcium and Magnesium which are vital to our condition. I took it first thing in the morning before eating or taking meds and supplements. I have heard reports of joints and muscles healed, Hemorrhoids shrunken and skin cleared up. Some brush their teeth with it.

I use it along with Magnesium, and like I said the IBS is one trigger to AF for me, it is not a pleasant condition either. Of course they do a human consumption product along with livestock consumption. Like I said, I do not take this for AF. Thanks to those who did some research on this first.

I have yet to hear from EngMac.

Why did this question come up for him.? The comments were directed in a derogatory manner towards me when I simply wanted to help someone else who asked this question.

A considered debate can ensue with all factors are included, which is then a valid conclusion. I have not suggested anyone should try this, but please try to keep some objectivity regarding what I have chosen to do.

My sister-in-law in France told me about this and she and her husband are using it. I have not used it. I thought some people on the forum might have some info as usual. Thanks Utramarine for sharing your experience with it. I saw the following comment on one website.

Research has also shown that food-grade diatomaceous may offer positive benefits for cholesterol levels and encourage heart health. [5] Nutrients such as silicon, calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, and other trace minerals are available in diatomaceous earth, giving rise to a practically endless supply of health benefits. Most of these nutrients play a role in building and repairing of muscles and bones.

The only research that I found was a very small study done in Europe in 1998. I have not spent much time looking at other study sources.

I had a chance to read up on this yesterday and found they do a food grade product, I wrote as we used to use for two things, so it goes to show with experimentation, it has progressed from the product I used all those years ago. i pictured what we used to use and could not imagine swallowing that. My Nanna used to chew on Tailors Chalk for some reason, i tried it as a child, but decided I would not continue to chew on this, it was tasteless, now I am wondering why she did this? I am serious about the bi carb, it has certainly helped with my reflux and digestive system. I have not had an episode of SVT for many years now, no medication. The Hobbit has not an episode of PAF? since that night in August in 2015. he also takes the bi carb soda every morning. Maybe D E and yohgurt might help. I prefer what Nature provides for us.

I do hope the original poster comes back and comments.

Thats great Fidgesmum I am glad you did some research, we are after all trying to help our bodies in our own way. EngMac did come back, its located just above your comments.

I used it for the first time a few months ago. I moved into a place that had fleas... my poor little kitten. So I read up on them and found this 'food grade DE Powder' was being used. I picked some up and used it. Worked almost immeadiately. Great safe stuff!!
