Hi fuzzflyer

Pradaxa is dabigatran one of the NOACs so there is no blood test for it, unlike warfarin you cannot measure INR with a NOAC.

It's probably one of the lesser used NOACs in the UK but not heard anyone report major problems with it, all the NOACs are new but generally people are happy with them due to the lack of testing regimes.

Be well

You may very well need to have an annual function blood tests.

Just ensure you take with full glass of water and preferably with food - but not any carbohydrates - don't take just before bedtime.

The only issue is that the gel coating requires an acid stomach to dissolve properly so don't take any ant-acids or PPI. All the above prevents acid reflux which is the only issue I ever had.

And I had 6 monthly bloods and annual check.

Pradaxa was one of the first ACs on the market.

Made me very sick within an hour so went onto rivaroxaban which is fine. No blood tests needed.

The blood test was my issue, to make sure there are no abnormalities after being on pradaxa. Side effects often are shown up this way as in Statins.

I have been taking Pradaxa for over 2 years. My EP in Liverpool prescribed it. I was also given a month's supply of antacid medication. After a while my stomach felt uneasy but CDreamer advised that Pradaxa needed an acid stomach. I ditched the antacid and all was well.

You need to have a kidney function test annually. I have to request this as it isn't done automatically.

Dr Gupta seemed to favour Pradaxa on a recent video. There is an antidote for it called Praxbind.

It's a twice daily capsule. Do not put one onto a damp plate as it will dissolve in an instant releasing hundreds of foul tasting tiny white balls.

I took it for a few weeks and stopped because of the extreme heartburn. On a scale of 1-10, the pain regularly rated 7 or 8.
