Does anyone know what a bubble scan is a friend of mine is due to have one next week so I thought I would ask on her behalf

Yes and I've had one. Really simple.

What they do is put a cannula in your arm with multiple inputs. They have a syringe with hundreds of small air bubbles and then they inject it. They then watch the heart to see the bubbles arrive. If you have a hole in the heart then the bubbles won't just travel along the normal route but also go through the hole into the other side of the heart.

Basically an echocardiogram with contrast. IV injection of saline contrast solution during the test . Not a difficult thing!

It's absolutely more of a doddle than all of the tests apart from an ECG.

Mine was a standard echo plus the canula which was painless.

Just wish I could have seen more on the screen
