My first appointment with an EP has been cancelled and put back 4 months , I am not disappointed but my wife was livid ,I have tickets for ennio morricone and if he cancelled I would be mad, this EP works in a private and public hospital . My wife wanted me to ring the private hospital and see want it would cost to go private . 25,000 Euro (a lot of money ) my wife's nephew had an ablation in November , his ablation cost 1,600 Euro and his 24 hour stay in hospital was 1,000 Euro he had private insurance , he was back with his EP yesterday and everything is going well . My nephew told his EP my story and he said it was outrageous. He said I was to go back to my cardiologist a get referred to a different EP he is not the only one that can do an ablation, can some ablation's cost more than others , still trying to let it sink in.

Here in UK costs do vary I understand from £14,000 to £16,000 plus possibly hospital hotel costs of £500 a night on top.

Bob. In a fairly recent post I seem to recall someone saying £10,500 or thereabouts.

Can you go privately to get an opinion and then go health service? We can here on UK.

Not sure which country you are in or your nationality.

I asked the EP secretary that and she did'nt recommend it . The a fib or ectopic beats are not affecting me at the moment and sometimes I forget I have it and forget to take the tablets but if I can get an ablation at the price My nephew got .I am going too take it .

The cost of an ablation depends on if the hospital already has the equipment or needs to hire it in. If you can get an NHS hospital that does private work they probably already have the equipment so will just charge a rental on its use, but a totally private hospital will usually have to hire it in and set it up making 25k would that unrealistic.

That said 1600 Euros seems unlikely as the EP will want at least 1500, the anethetist 1750, the six theatre nurses come in at quite a bit, the operating theatre will be a few thousand and there is also a cardiac surgeon has to be paid for to be 'on call' in case anything goes wrong.

That's what I taught . I will try and get a look at that insurance invoice and see for myself.

He was awake for the ablation he did'nt have an anaesthetic.( I know the figures still don't add up)

I was quoted £15,000 for ablation in 2009. ( London )
