Does anyone take this medicine and how is it working for you. Have there been side affects?

Sotolol
Sotalol was removed form the list of suitable drugs for treatment of AF by NICE in June 2014. At doses which can actually control rhythm there is possibility of affect on ventricle which is not desirable.
I was advised by a senior EP at the AFA patients day in 2013 never take it for just AF, I think he was one of the people who had it removed from NICE guidelines for AF.
I refused to take it when it was prescribed for me and rather upset my cardiologist of that time, but then I found a much better one who was much better informed and up to date,
Hi there,
I've been on Sotalol for well after a year. I was previously on another heart rate control drug but it didn't agree with me so my GP prescribed Sotalol instead. I haven't experienced any adverse side effects at all but I have read that it's now not recommended by NICE. Also I'm just wondering if it is actually doing anything or just working like a sticking plaster for me as I've recently had a few AF attacks (luckily short-lived) despite being on this drug.
I had an ablation a couple of weeks ago and am due to see my cardiologist in January when I will ask him what he feels about Sotalaol. Mind you, by then - if all goes well - I may be off the drug anyway if the ablation's been successful!
My advice would be to not worry excessively but get as much expert advice as you can. Best of luck!
I was on it for two months and felt dreadful. My episodes of AF also increased from every six weeks approximately to every two weeks. I asked to come off it.
hi I been in it for 6 yers / but it stop working now so they put me on sotanalol / but sotalol I had so side effect
Thank you for all your responses, I was in the hospital for svt and was put on this. If I walk, even slowly I get a tightness in my chest that makes me cough. I am in the USA and was wondering if sotolol has been taken off the list here.
I have been on Sotalol for 18 months now after not getting on with Bisoprolol. I dont know if it is working as I still get my Paroxsimal attacks usually 2 days in every 7. When having a pharmacy check up she informed me that it works by stopping the heart rate from rising too high. It doesnt give me any side effects.
Follow the link and have a look through the AFA Autumn newsletter its the section on "Ask the experts" by Dr Gupta he explains about Sotalol.....

Been taking sotolol for about 3 years. No problems with it but occasional boutds of AF with PVCs.I had PM implanted about 3 months ago so heart beat can't go too high or too low.Still have episodes of AF but less severe.Still going Elaine in USA.
I was on Sotolol for several years, but, after reading on here it was no longer recommended for af, I approached my gp, who looked into it and decided I should come off it. I take nothing now, apart from warfarin,
