Went to toilet today poo was very dark phoned doc he told me to stop taking the Apixiban and asked if I had tummy ache said no asked what it was and he said could be a bleed in tummy and not to take blood thinners any one had this sorry about the subject

No, I've had no problems with Apixaban Sue. Doc could be right about a bleed but equally the two may be unconnected. Importantly, is there a follow up? You don't want to be without anti-coagulation for too long especially if it is not the culprit. Good luck.

Bleeding in the digestive tract produces a stool which is black and tarry (like tar on the road) Just dark can mean all sorts of things for instance something like beetroot which you might have eaten. The condition or the stool is called Malaena,I think that is how you spell it. I have had lots of episodes of this the last year or so and have had Colonoscopy,Gastroscopy and Enteroscopy to find and cauterise the bleeding spots. I am OK now but if it really is bleeding then your Ferritin and Haemoglobin will start dropping.
