It's 4.00 in morning and heart thumping around like a clog dancer.Reluctant to take Flec at the moment...
Also a routine mammogram screening scheduled for Tues just less than three weeks after Ablation wondering if wise.....Anyone got any thoughts on this please....

Oh how tedious for you. I've had four sessions of AF since my ablation in March, but (I'm whispering here) nothing for a while and have been completely off flecainide for almost two months now.
Why not reschedule the mammogram if it's just routine and postpone it a few weeks. Can't see a big problem though.

Go and have your mammogram its very important that you have them done. Believe me ladies they are so important take every opportunity you get to have one. Speak to the radiologist when you arrive tell her your worries. I would have taken the Flecanide but as I was only having ectopics (I know this now) it didn't work for me but most of the time it did. I'm not a doctor but best thing I've learnt recently is take your pulse if its not way over 100 then your not in AF.
Not so sure about that. My pulse is always in the 70/90 bpm range when I take my pulse n AF and this was confirmed at two recent A and E visits where a succession of ECGs showed I was in AF, yet my heart rate was only very occasionally over 100 bpm when I was hooked up to the machine by my bed (it was in that 70/90 range for 99% of the time).
Sorry Loo it is possible to have AF with a slow pulse, I know I got it with a pulse of 75.

Not true at all . You can have Af with much lower pulse
While in AFib, I feel much worse when my pulse is over 100, but I can spend hours out of rhythm in the 70-80 BPM range. My resting NSR rate is 48 or so.

As much as I loathed Flecainide... i still took it post ablation when in AF.
My UNDErSTANDING Was it is best to keep thé heart calm post ablation so as to not recréate any reconduction. I did continue the Flecainide with metoprolol as a pill in thé pocket method post ablations!
I know we worry about too much radiation, post ablation, so I understand your concerns. If you have no immediate reason for the mammogram why not put it off for peace of mind. If you are hesitant or require the mammogram for a reason which is evident, I doubt it will make a big difference. Perhaps ask your doctor?

I'd ask your doctor if the mammogram will affect your heart in any way and take their advice - mammograms are important, so don't postpone one without good cause... I have to say that having a mammogram has never put me into AF yet despite being dangled rather ignominiously, sandwiched between two very cold Perspex plates (far worse than the radiation). Oh, dear, that's too much information...

O K Ladies as a mere male talking I can't see the problem with the mammogram Carol. It is only X ray after all and you had tons of that during your ablation. They use a pulsed X ray to feed TV pictures of the heart all during the procedure. This is why they all wear the lead skirts and tops. Don't worry Carol as Loo says this is most important.The funnies are also quite normal up to three months as you should have been told.

I have a theory that if men were to have their dangly bits compressed between 2 horizontal pieces of glass with about 1/2cwt of pressure applied then a new procedure would be invented very quickly!!
Jenny over the last four years I have had cameras in paces they don't fit, quite vital bits removed, pushed shoved and generally abused, three rectal prostate biopsies, and one trans perineal biopsy so do not tell me about discomfort I invented it! lol Anyway I thought we were asking if it would cause harm to the heart. No it won't but like anything if you get stressed about it it may.

Mumknowsbest I was only repeating what the cardiac arrhythmia specialist said to me not disputing that you can't have AF at 75/BPM or trying to mislead anyone. The CAS was just referring to my own condition which is just electrical with no other structural problems or odd plumbing. Yes there are other types of AF you can have with 60-100 BPM so I stand corrected. The only AF I am familiar with is the 175/BPM type. The other time when I thought I was in AF were just ectopics at 75/85bpm.

Took the the flec and bispro. (Reluctantly) the heart settled down after about 30 mins...
Spent the day then walking,picnicking and looking at narrow boats in Cheshire...
Having AF has me take stock of my life ..At the moment l am trying to muster up enough courage to pack up sell up and put my house on the market to buy a boat....Need health to be able to achieve this so keeping everything crossed....

Sorry you have had a set back. You are doing remarkably well though. Re the mammogram, I think I would speak with my GP for advice. But I would be reluctant to put it off if there is not a post ablation medical reason to do so. Get it out of the way if you can as its another pressure to stall your recovery. I dont know of any women who doesn't get stressed by having a mammogram so that wont help your recovering heart in itself.
Its all happening at once for you but then you are due some rewards so look forward to a clean bill of health with all of this behind you then its onwards and upwards towards a sparkling new future whether on a boat or elsewhere.
