Visitors ?? Haha don't know what happened there should read beta blocker and for some reason won't let me put in the name of it ? Begins bis know you will know which one lol help please

It must be Bisoprolol you're trying to type? Interesting your computer must be doing a spell check and changing it to "visitor's" :-) , a bit like my phone, I send some interesting texts :-)

Bisoprolol was dreadful for me, made me tired, worn out, slow and breathless. Only stayed on them for a week or two. My EP said they were completely the wrong drug for me and put me on another type (rhythm control drugs), and even though I have a slightly fast heart rate as standard, he did not try and slow it down.

Yes took for month was terrible although no shortness of breath , my heart sits at a good 64 a min so I now have a pocket pill , as and when pill in other words , I have k own for months something was not right with my heart as I was so conscious of it beating ,especially when laying down ,and several ectopic beats, but have just been diagnosed about five weeks with PAF, after going in ambulance one night with heart rate of 184. , only had two attacks of only 40 mins in all. The months I have felt aware of this prob. My CONCERN is the very bad and very long bouts of dizziness I am still experiencing after now being off bis for 9 days , is it normal anyway to have this, I find it life changing, afraid to go to my nephew wedding Thursday , especially as over two hrs away and staying overnight ,? Hope you are doing better than me. .lynn

Hi Lingooz, welcome

Do you track your heart rate or know what your average heart rate is? Do you know your blood pressure? Are you taking any other medications? What have you been diagnosed with?

It is not normal to feel dizzy but tired all the time, yes. Lightheadedness is different to dizziness and suggests lack of oxygenated blood to brain and some substances such as Bisoprolol may also have that effect but if you say you stopped taking it doesn't really follow that was the cause. Slow heart rate, low blood pressure are just some of the other possibilities which are also connected to AF. You really haven't given us a lot of information.

Who diagnosed you? Were you referred to an EP cardiologist?

Were you given treatment options and do you understand them?

Hi diagnosed SAF. So intermittent Af so only have what they call pill in the pocket pill, take as and when!! Only ever had 2 bad incidents! Blood pressure been 148/87 last two times which was told high but probably because at the hospital they said ! On just aspirin (considering warfarin too . Goin to contact GP tomorrow ,by the way not heard of EP , seen cardiologist registra he told me was SAF , when said supposed to go to Oz in 5 months he said he will see me in four (but already decided not going ,just to long on plane if something happens , I have to do what is best for me and my peace of mind let you all know what happens next and thanks for support

Hi again, AF is a horrible condition and it does mean that you have to make some concessions to some of the things you used to do without thinking but what I think you need to check out with your doctor as soon as possible is the dizziness. I would suggest you describe your symptoms as precisely as possible. Dizziness for me suggests an inability to keep my balance whereas lightheaded means a spacey feeling I get just before syncope (fainting). They are different and will indicTe different things to your doctor. It is not normal to feel like this all of the time but I would say I occasionally feel like that on onset or during episode. The tiredness we just learn to live with.

Re going places: there is a phrase used a lot on this site, AF has come into your life but don't allow AF to be your life. Sounds like you feel too ill to travel at the moment but there is absolutely nothing about AF which should stop you going anywhere. I have just come back from Spain and I visit my grandchildren, all 200 + miles away, I just don't drive myself when I feel bad. Go well.

Hi, it feel like I just stepped of a fair ride and like I may faint and even when laying it keeps spinning , also get more headaches than before

This sounds like vertigo which can be caused by an inner ear problem. You can have it without having earache. Your description of stepping off a fairground ride and spinning when lying down, fits it exactly. A visit to your G.P. Will help. Hope this helps. It is a horrible feeling.x

Spain could handle but Oz I did last year it's exhausting and first plane takes nearly 14 hrs if my pill I take on attacks does not work in 20 mins was told to go to A&E. ? So despite having bought ticket and having gorgeous two yr old grandson and just born granddaughter to meet the though terrifies me :-(

Hi Lingooz

I would talk to your doctor because the symptoms could be something that's not associated, like an ear infection... If you're off bisprolol (loving the visitors spellcheck thingie) then I don't think it can be causing the problem, it's more likely to be something else - I know all too well that we tend to think all the symptoms we have are AF, but sometimes they're not... I have to add that when I first got this I was so terrified it made me feel dizzy and lightheaded. You will find as you get used to the condition that you calm down, and it actually helps with all the symptoms. Best of luck to you and I hope the doc gets to the bottom of it quickly for you :)

Thanks for kind words of support ! Yes have had vertigo years back (twice) but this seems bit to coincidental ,will let you know what they say , thanks again , lynn

lingooz, when I had untreated AF, it did get to the point where I could hardly stand. If I sat it wasn't bad but still there, and if I lay down it was much better (except I could feel my heart I think). I wasn't getting enough oxygen to my head because my ticker wasn't working 100%. That made me feel as though I didn't want to stand. Not exactly giddy or off-balance, but I would describe it as more light-headed, or numb-headed maybe. As though I was about to pas out.

So is it normal? For me it would be if your symptoms are same as mine were.

As has been said above, are you seeing an EP (Electrophysiologist)? They are the only people how can really sort you out if you have AF or an arrhythmia of any sort. I saw an EP when first diagnosed and have had it under control since then (12 years).

Hope that helps! Good luck.

Are you in uk ? As not heard of EP here , thank you for your reply ,sound like what you experienced mine worse just that mine is just as bed when laying down

in reply tolingooz

Yes, I'm in the UK.

EP = Electrophysiologist, a cardiologist who specialises in the electrics of the heart. They are the ones who know what they are doing and seeing one is a must in my opinion. If you haven't seen one, I'd try and get referred to one if I were in your shoes.

PS. With the lying down, have you tried lying on your right side? Sometimes this can make things a lot better.

Never could sleep on left side , I have had some improvement by using two pillows one under shoulder as apparently elevation is better ,thanks will look into EP

My only suggestion is have you had your blood pressure checked as low blood pressure can sometimes cause the same symptoms.

I suffer with labrynthitis ( vertigo without feeling sick!) and that is just as you outlined - dizziness whether standing up or lying down. I was prescribed Betahistine and that works well for me. Despite being told that it is unrelated to AF I feel, for me at least, there is a connection.

I had vertigo in past but not for years now , so not sure , but since my first AF attack I have not felt good . I did wonder about the vertigo too so will see what my GP says. And will post on here how I get on,thank you for your reply take care

Long time since update , the continual dizziness and worrying were described as anxiety , (as I got much worse ) been om on anti depressant now for five months and feel great , no AF attacks but definitely eptopics , supposed to see cardio august but they cancelled in june and despite ringing twice still no new date , said still only dealing with may cancellations !!!!??????? Crazy , you could be much worse by then , I live in Norfolk but go to nearest hospital in Suffolk 23 miles away ? Seems people in London on here get much better and faster treatment ( I a londoner but left in 76 , now am older noticing drawbacks ) sorry rambled on :-)
