Have had AF, relieved after cardioversion. Heart rate suddenly gone to about 140. In rural area w/o easy access to Dr.

Don't have shortness of breath as w/ initial AF. Just a bit worried. Taking Amiodarone which should keep my heart rate down?

If you have a regular beat of 140 it does not sound like AF. It could be atrial tachycardia/ or SVT but I would suggest to try ringing the hospital and explaining what has happened. .

This is typically what I get. I had a cardioversion 6 weeks ago. Here are some techniques I use to bring my rate down.

1. Purse your lips( v small opening) and keep blowing out, until you really have no more breath left.

2. Tense your body inside from the heart down to your bowels and at the same time hold your breath for as long as you can.

It sounds like the amiodarone isn't controlling your heart right now. Is your doctors surgery open this morning? If so call and get advice as to whether you can increase the dose.

How long ago did you have your cardioversion and what was your heart problem before it was carried out?

Do not hesitate to call the 111 number and ask to speak to a doctor if you are concerned. I assume you are taking warfarin as well.

Let us know how you get on. Wishing you well.

Interesting...and good advice, jeanjeannie. I am still in NSR after cardioversion 4 weeks ago but have been experiencing periods of missed beats and palpitations when I laid down at night. I found this rather worrying problem was helped by breathing out slowly and then holding that exhalation for as long as possible. The beats evened out and felt normal. Doing this a few times and I usually went off to sleep and all was well!
