hi afers . is anyone else upset because they have to wait so long for an ablation??? i waited 5 months for the first one .
Hi moggdog
I have to wait 4-5 months for my Ablation, due to the fact that the Professor has gone on long service leave. I am due late Dec early Jan for mine. Meanwhile I am having constant episodes of AF. Just spent 8 days in the local hospital with what they thought was a stroke.....I have a numb right leg below the kneecap as well as weakness down the right side of my body, also short term memory loss. An MRI did not show anything and numerous other scans as well. The Physio's and OT's said I have the classic symptoms of a stroke so I don;t know whether I did or I didn't have a stroke....I had a nerve reduction test which showed all clear.
Like you I am P....d off with the whole thing.
Hi Moggdog - 9 months sure is a long time to wait . What part of the country do you live in? My 1st ablation in 2009 at The Heart Hospital in London was offered to me just 6 weeks after my consultation! Things may well have changed now though. My last 2 at Brighton came with an 18 week wait although the last one came much sooner as I was on the ' urgent ' list. Have you looked into the possibility of being seen quicker by going to one of the London hospitals ?
Sandra
hi. i live in bristol. and will be my second ablation.
Hi Moggdog - I had to wait 6 months for each of the two ablations I've had. It does seem a long time to have to wait 9 months and yes, like you, that length of time would be p***ing me off. Will this be your first ablation? If not I would look into going to one of the London hospitals as Yatsura recommends.

Moggdog
I had to wait 4 years before even getting a referral to an NHS EP despite my requests to GP, local cardiologists and the erstwhile PCT and a recommendation for treatment
from a well known London EP I'd seen privately in desperation.
I'm now being assessed for ablation at a hospital at the other side of the county, tho as The EP said, it's a pity I wasn't seen 4 years ago. Ablations simply aren't popular where I live and I was astonished to discover - a bit late - how routinely people are referred and assessed elsewhere in the country, especially in London. It may be too late for me, but my advice to the newly diagnosed is to insist immediately on a referral to an EP/A/fib specialist rather than a general cardiologist. Ablation may not be the answer for you but I do believe it's everyone's right to be assessed.
Good luck with the procedure.
Tina
Really isn't good enough, is it? I've been waiting14 months for a cardioversion (due next month, hopefully). Even more frustrating when the experts point out that these treatments are better carried out quickly to achieve any sort of success!
Yes! I've been waiting since June when I finally got to see my EP. My cardiologist told me it would be 3 months, then the AF nurse said it was 6. I still haven't got a date so I'm hoping it's before Xmas. Good luck with yours.
