Radiation Done!

Have to celebrate the minor milestones. Today I finished 44 sessions on the TrueBeam system.

My doc was pretty much spot on in his cautions on side effects - started with some not-so-nice lower bowel issues where I had to stick close to the home base for awhile (but nothing compared to what your typical 24 hour virus could deliver).

Second part - where they start hitting the prostate directly - the urine flow gets a bit restricted, but nothing too bad. His promise is that this will resolve itself in some weeks. Flowmax helps a bit.

Never had blood in stool or urine, never burning.

Best news of all is that my next appointment is not for 2 1/2 months where I will get Lupron shot #3. Although I am signed up for 2 years of Lupron, doc mentioned that this fall we could discuss doing less. To be determined.

But for now, I celebrate. Hopefully that lovely machine put some nice hurt on old Mr. Cancer.

Battle on, Warriors!

We're pulling for you. It must have been hard to maintain a full bladder as treatments got near the end (it sure was for me.) Do you know what Gray fraction was used?

79 total. Lymph nodes got 45

I developed a system on the bladder (drink a liter on the way to the hospital, immediately hit toilet on exit and once on way home).

I am right behind you at number 25 today. 19 more to go. No problems so far. Hitting the Prostrate starts tomorrow.

Boy I am sure that is a relief. I start on Tuesday for about 25 sessions at intermediate level radiation. I will need to talk to the radiation people about having FlowMax.

Wonder if I will have restrictions like you mentioned from the radiation. I guess time will tell. I currently have none just a slightly reduced stream speed.

At its worse I went from getting up 2x a night to 5-6. That’s when they put me on the flowmax.

You may want to consider ORGOVYX rather than the Lupron. Daily oral pill, no injections! I am having NO side effects other than mild hot flashes. PSA dropped to undetectable after 2 weeks and has remained there for 8 months now. I plan on staying on this for one year beyond the completion of my radiation.

Good news...I had sRT after BCR 6 weeks post RP...keep an eye on your ED and make some decisions sooner, rather than later, as to what you want to do going forward. Dont wait until you are healed and discover there is a good chance you will expire with this disease, not from it...act soon. I share my experience with you if it helps...best of all luck to you.
