I am 18 months post diagnosis, stage 4 prostate cancer. Treatment consists of Elligard injections every 6 months and Zytega. Also 45 radiation treatments. At my last quarterly appt Dr said I was borderline Anemic. Curious if anyone else had issues with Anemia, thanks

Yup, 7 1/2 years on Lupron:RBCs at 4.38

HGB at 13.3

Both right under the minimum of the normal range. I hike at 4000 ft where I live and that will help encourage RBC production. That's why Olympians train in Colorado, a natural blood doping.

I take Beet root powder in my am green tea

Thank you for your reply, I've noticed an increase in fatigue recently and thought it might be the low RBC. This PC disease creates many guessing game situations, I'm always trying to figure things out.

More likely your fatigue is a side effect of Eligard and Zytiga. Anemia too might add to fatigue somewhat. Lot of Exercise is solution to ADT induced fatigue.

What does beet root powder do? Is that ground up beets?

Hi, I order Beet Root powder as that is less expensive than actual Beet juice and also doesn't have sugar. I posted a link above. Here is what I found about T and RBC production: researchgate.net/publicatio...

When men are on ADT they often have mild anemia as a side effect of ADT...This is known as "Anemia of ADT" Generally harmless if Hb is still above 10.

I was in the same boat, and took iron tablets for six months until my levels came back up.

I've always understood to avoid iron supps. Anyone else doing that?

My father has historically been anemic. His Hb dropped further on ADT. Intravenous iron works well for him. He has had 2 infusions in 1.5 years.

I've been 12.5ish hemoglobin for 20 years post left cancerous kidney removal, Technically I'm anemic. I still lift weights. I bench press 120lb and mil press 65lb and i'm fairly active at 70yo. I started adt-Lupron which has kicked by butt much harder than chronic anemia. Will power helps getting started and keeping going. Thats the best advice I got. Mentally push yourself and your body will follow up to its physical limit. Many folks never find their limits because they do not try hard enough. Good luck and may the force be with you.
