Some doctors ask me to talk to patients who are "on the ledge." I'm told I'm pretty good at that. But one patient accused me of not being emotional enough and wanted nothing to do with me. I guess you can't please everybody.

My equanimity is lacking. Kind of like I reacted to my divorce- shock, denial, anger, withdrawal, acceptance, meet the challenge and move on. At that point, I become almost imperturbable.

Great post, Scout... a piece that really triggers the gray cells and resonates with me, especially the quote urging one to "... be satisfied with fragments of the truth and to be ready for the inevitable struggles and disappointments ahead." Indeed!
