Somatic Test UK

Hello, this is probably more directed at the UK members really; Has anyone had a somatic test and if so, where did you get it done? A member on a previous post has advised that the original biopsy can be used for this, is this what you had done? Thanks again 👍

You can use it for some readings (like msi-hi/dmmr) but some mutations don't show up until metastases have progressed.

If they are large enough and accessible.

I wouldn't advise using the original biopsy, you want the latest mutations. The cancer has been busy working around your treatments so you want to know how it's doing that.

My consultant organised somatic testing of the original biopsy tissue and they found BRAC2. However tissue sample was only 6 months old at the time. I believe they used Foundation One.

It is simple to ask the pathologist to send the archived biopsy samples to a genetic lab. I would prefer that to a new biopsy of a metastasis. FoundationOne writes:

Does a new biopsy have to be collected for FoundationOne®CDx?

FOUNDATIONONE®CDx can also be carried out with a tissue sample from a previous biopsy. However, if enough tissue is not available from the previous biopsy to carry out the analysis, another biopsy may be necessary. Sometimes the doctor also recommends a new biopsy in order to obtain a fresh sample.

So usually they use tissue sample from a previous biopsy.

This study reports: "Sequencing archival, primary prostate cancer tissue may be an accurate means to assess the status of actionable DNA repair gene alterations in men with metastatic disease."

Hi. UK based. I have never been offered a biopsy, as presenting PSA was 1,311. I researched this a few months ago. Oncologica in Cambridgeshire offer Genomic profiling. They seemed very professional. Genesis Care also offer the test based on a biopsy and again the replies that I received were very professional. Best of British to your Dad and you.
