Spent a week in Bangkok on R&R, (1969). It was insane, have never seen anything like it since.

I've been living in Pattaya for 15 years now. Fortunately I was here when the Covid shit hit the fan. None of my friends that went back to their native countries for a visit have been allowed to come back since the lockdown. The only foreigners that Thailand is 'chomping at the bit' to bring back are the Chinese...the ones that brought it here in the first place!

"Chinese tourists to start traveling around Thailand after completing quarantine; CCSA panel approves 10-day quarantine."

I remember being Puket in 85 when it was just dirt roads when I was in the Navy on leave. Riding dirt bikes and drinking in the thatch roofed bars. Playing guitars, fresh crab straight from the boats and pretty girls all in a row. I was there last year, again on leave, a lot has changed, 😎DD.

Interesting Ron, I was only in Bangkok for two weeks back in ‘01 and had a great time. A business associate took me to Pattaya for the weekend. The beach stand was absolutely beautiful, wish I could remember some of the places I visited. I could see living there, it’s a very nice and friendly culture. I guess the Chinese are a first priority to bring back as tourists as they spend a lot of money when they visit. Cheers- Tim

Tim,

The Chinese are actually the most undesirable tourists since they pay for their tours in China, travel only in Chinese owned buses, stay only in Chinese owned hotels, eat only in Chinese owned restaurants, and do little to support the Thai economy. Most Thais dislike them. It is very common for a Chinese tour bus to stop at a large, air conditioned coffee shop and bring in their own water in while one person buys a drink. Those that smoke (and most do) sit on the patio and leave empty cigarette packages and water bottles on the floor, and make the poor Thai workers clean up the overflowing ashtrays and trash.
