Zytiga (abiraterone) has replaced the use of Ketoconazole. Ketoconazole could have significant side effects and it does not prolong overall survival.

In this study they used 400 mg 3 times a day.

In this other study they used 200 mg 3 times a day to reduce negative side effects

Ketoconazole + prednisone was the first treatment after casodex failed for my husband. The medical oncologist he had at the time used it because it was cheap and would buy time until Provenge treatment could be arranged. NIH had recommended at that time Provenge immediately followed by Extandi.

As long as it’s external any good athlete foot ointment. That will go after the rash and blisters, I had a quite a time with my recital area for a while. Once I got rid of the fungus I started using wet wipes to finish the job. Fighting this monster 😡😡😡🙏🙏🙏

Besides ketaconazole, another anti fungal that showed activity against PC cell lines is Itraconazole, previously marketed for toenail fungus as Sporanox. This does not work on the androgen receptor axis like ketaconazole. Rather it acts on a different regulatory pathway with the odd name of Hedgehog signaling pathway. There has been further research with itraconazole for PC but I am not aware of the status of any clinical trials.

The oral antifungal drug itraconazole, most commonly used to treat nail fungus, may keep prostate cancer from worsening and delay the need for chemotherapy in men with advanced disease.Jun 2, 2011
