Clinical trials give you much latitude. You can quit at any time and you ever very good monitoring.

Yes I’ve done a number of clinical trials at MD Anderson. The great thing is they do very aggressive monitoring schedules so they keep on top of your disease during the trial. Ask the doctor why he/she thinks this might be appropriate/beneficial then decide based on that.

Olaparib is a PARP inhibitor. Common side effects are nausea and vomiting. Also constipation - which can be severe.

What gene mutation does your husband have? As far as I know, Olaparib (brand name Lynparza) has been FDA approved for breast and ovarian cancers, but does not yet have final FDA approval for use in prostate cancer. However, based on the interim results of a couple of ongoing clinical trials it has been given “breakthrough” FDA approval for CRPC PCa patients who have already undergone chemotherapy and ADT, and who have BRCA 1-2 or ATM gene mutations. The benefits have been particularly good for those with the BRCA mutations, not so much with ATM mutations.
