Precert Denied by Insurance Co. for CT Scan of Chest - So Got Xray Instead

AetnaMedicarePPO insurance denied last night their pre-certification for Monday's chest CT scan that was to have looked for lung mets. They recommended a chest Xray instead, so I did that this morning (it showed "normal").

Wondering, would a regular chest Xray (rather than CT scan) prove there are no mets? Seems odd to me that an Xray would be as good as a CT scan?

Getting a full body nuclear bone scan on Monday to look for bone mets, assuming insurance pre-certifies that. If no mets show, then oncologist will start me on Apalutamide (Erleada) soon.

A CT is a 3D X-ray. Both can identify largish lesions, but neither can tell you what they are. Unless you have reason to suspect a lung met, why investigate further? If you can't find any mets and you are castration resistant, you can get Erleada - so you may be better off not looking too hard.

Regular scans showed nothing for me . GA68-PSMA found multiple ( more then 10) in both lungs. That was last October. So that identified mine. CT scan with contrast being done in 2 weeks to track.

Thanks - BTW, what is GA68-PSMA? Is that an Xray or CT scan?

BTW

When they suspected a tumor on my lung (from a melanoma) they first sent me for X-Rays and eventually for a conformation CT scan then for a lung biopsy. Bingo, I had a tumor on my Lung caused by a melanoma on my neck that had been removed previously. Been taking Keytruda and so far it's working. (This is besides my Pca.)

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
