Has anyone had a penile implant after going through radiation and a prosectomy that can share your experience, success rate and / or any complications associated with implant. Lastly, any recommendations for Surgeons specializing in implants for post radiation patients.

I had a penile implant (AMS700) and the urinary sphincter AMS 800 about 12-13 years ago. The 800 failed after about 10 years (pretty much the average for this kind of implant) and I replaced it. The 700 is still working but not getting much use at the moment. However I can attest that it works well. Get a surgeon that knows the operation and has done it many times.

Thank you for your insightful response the information was very helpful,

lupron/eliguard shots its only cure is to lower ones testosterone which means no woody. i tryed viagra and nothing helped. i would say longer your on those shots give up the thought of a woody. u need good blood flow to get a woody. good luck in that belief.

I received my penile implant approximately 9 1/2 years ago. It works great but unfortunately doesn’t get a lot of use due to lack of interest caused by Eligard and chemo. I would still strongly advise it. The recovery from surgery is pretty rough but well worth it.

My advice is do it. Don't wait like i did because you do lose it if you dont use it, the implant can not get back what you have lost. The first 2 weeks after surgery is kinda rough but worth it.

My having radiation never came up as an issue.

Didn’t have radiation but swear by the AMS 700implant. It’s a game changer. I don’t regret it ever. Neither does my wife 😎

I had an implant about 3 years ago and am 100% happy with it. It is an AMS 700 MS Series prosthesis, and was done at Duke, NC. My surgeon is now retired, but I'm sure there are many expert surgeons out there.

If you have given enough time to see if your erection nerves will recover after a prostatectomy (many doctors say 2 years), and you still have no recovery, an implant will change your life. The surgery is not pleasant, but the end result is that you can forget about the hassles of injections, vacuum pump, etc.. It puts you back in control. My prostatectomy totally destroyed any possibility of an erection. Pills no longer worked. Injections no longer worked, and just caused terrible pain for several hours. The vacuum pump created an erection, but the pain was awful when the constriction rings were popped into place. After 2 years of no response, the only options were to live the rest of my life without any erections while the intense desire was still there, or get an implant. I got an AMS 700. It took some time before the pain was gone and I could use it, but it was well worth it. Find an implant surgeon who is an expert in the procedure and do it. Infection is the major risk, but it should be less than 2%. Some doctors claim much less than that.
