I see Dr. Sweeney at DFCI. He is very good, but I think he is reducing his clinic hours and difficult to get in to see. Taplin and McGregor also have good reputations and I think there are several others. I find we spend more time talking with the resident fellow than the attending doctor so that might be a factor too. Perhaps grab an appointment with any of the prostate oncologists and once you are in the system, you might be able to move around more easily between doctors if desired. Good luck.

JD: Thanks very much for your recommendations. I’m moving across town from MGH to DF as I didn’t find anything worthwhile at 77 Fruit St. Joseph S. Newport RI

Dr. Matthew Smith at MGH is supposedly pretty good too. You must have seen him. They are all using the same playbook so it's just a matter of finding a doc in one of these institutions who is more attentive and willing to push the evidenced-based boundaries a little. Or find a the "institutional" MO you like and get opinions from others like Sholtz or Turner at Prostate Oncology Specialists who are not confined by the rigors of the establishment. And maybe even blend in a naturopathic oncologist. They are not mutually exclusive. Good luck.

I had an appointment scheduled with Dr. Smith several months ago but he was a no show as he was out of the state for several days. The morning of my appt I received a phone call from the MGH admin office re. Dr. Smith’s non-availability but was offered an appt (same time/date) with a MO and I accepted. After the initial meeting and one follow-up I decided to seek an alternate hospital. I have not yet contacted DF for an evaluation as I am awaiting a response from MGH concerning my request to have Dr. S. be my designated PCa ono. i have saved your recomendations for DF as I will go there if Dr. S. is not available. If you are interested I have a mini-bio in the profiles section. And thank you again for your help.

I see your in Newport RI. We lived there for many years and I saw Anthony Mega at Miriam Hospital in Providence. He is as good as it gets...associated with Brown and is a teaching hospital. I saw him for 6 years and then moved to NC. He referred me to Dan George at Duke who is also great!

I would strongly recommend you contact the team at Miriam headed up by Tony Mega...all he does is PC he is not a generalist in cancer work.
