Who has been treated with this substance? Can you detail, briefly, the experience?
Radium 223: Who has been treated with... - Advanced Prostate...
Radium 223
I have had 3 of 6 shots. It is administered by I.V. You get some fluid in advance, then the drug is pushed over a minute, 5hen a little more fluid to flush the tubes. Before anyone leaves the room, the physicist uses a Geiger counter to confirm there were no leaks.
Although I have had G.I. And stomach issues, for most men the side effects are low.
I have just completed my second dose. The day after the dose I have a slight fever. So far that has been all. Compared to my experiences with chemo, and the varied hormones it has had very few side effects.
I have completed the 6 shot regime. Same experience as Yost. No side effects beyond fatigue which I’ve had from my Zytiga. Recent bone scan showed no change in Mets but dr says it may take a while. Scheduled for another and CT scan after the holidays. PSA up slightly from. 3.5 to 4.1.
I had the 6 month course about 2 years ago. I had absolutely no side effects of any kind. During this time my bone mets (which had already been reduced by about 50% by combined Abiraterone and Zoladex), reduced again but just by a few percent. My advice is to go for it. Apparently you can have it more than once, but here in the UK it is only funded for a single course. I may have to try and fund it myself in the near future or claim on Medical Insurance.
Best wishes,
Niall
Do a search for radium 223 or Xofigo. There have been lots of posts including mine about how it did nothing to help my husband, and in fact caused him more pain when the cancer flared up a few months before he became paralyzed from spinal cord compression. Charlean
It had no effect.
