Medication Shortage is driving me insane

I’ve been medicated for my adhd consistently since I was about 10 years old and a couple of years ago I had to switch insurances to a PPO. I feel like express scripts is out to make my life miserable because they never respond in time to prior authorizations. By the time they responded to my psych’s request for a lower dosage, the pharmacy was out of the medicine I take. I’ve tried calling other pharmacies and rationing my meds but I’m down to 4 pills and no one seems to have this medication in stock in any amount anywhere! If I switch I’ll be stuck waiting for another PA and if I stay on this one who knows when they’ll have it back in stock. I’m worried I could underperform and lose my job if something doesn’t change and I’m so anxious about it. Is anyone else having this issue and if so how do you stay afloat? I’m completely at a loss and still rationing for my busiest days.

In situations where traditional ADHD medications like Ritalin are unavailable or being rationed, alternative options such as Nicorette spray or gum could be considered, especially for non-smokers. From personal experience, these nicotine-based products, while generally less effective at managing ADHD symptoms than prescription medications, can still offer some benefits due to the impact even small doses may have on non-smokers.

However, it is crucial to discuss any new health-related approaches with your doctor, ideally before starting them. In my case, I reported to my doctor post-experimentation, noting significant personal improvements such as timely bill payments and organized records, which led to my ADHD diagnosis.

Nicorette spray (not gum) has remained part of my treatment regime sinse. I use 3 or 4 sprays a day. Typically to cover the focus gap between taking Ritalin. That or if I need to focus on a particularly demanding task.
