Cost of ADHD meds

I am starting my ADHD journey and am quite concerned over the cost of Vyvanse (sp)? and other ADHD drugs. If my psychiatrist suggests one of these, any recommendations on best ways to cut cost on these? I have a medicare advantage plan with prescriptions paid according to Tier. I know Vyvanse is at the top of the tier list.

Try a generic like Dextroamphetamine. Be sure and check your plan to be sure a specific drug is covered. There are limits on how many tablets they will pay for in a 30 days period. That information is listed along with the name and mg of medication on your plans website. If your plan does not cover a specific medication. You can use GoodRx or another prescription discount card. Be sure and check to verify they cover Schedule II drugs. I know most do.

Vyvanse is often a safe choice for starting off because it's harder to abuse than some of the other ADHD meds. But providers know we're real people with income issues. So you should run in to no problem getting generic Adderall or generic Dexedrine or generic Ritalin, all of which are quite affordable.

You're worrying about the wrong thing.

I looked into Vyvanse and found that if you go to their Takeda Patient assistance program. They have a program that will provide assistance for those who have problems paying for their medication. you need to download there application, fill in your part, the give it to your doctor to fill her part. Then it must be faxed to company from your doctors fax. I am giving the form to my doctor this week and I hope it works. If they approve it the med will be free. I pray this. works for us, good luck.

Ask your psychiatrist for the coupon for Vyvanse. It is good for one year. You then give it to the pharmacist and they key it into their system so you don’t have to show the coupon every time. Hang onto the card just in case it’s needed again and then the following year get the new coupon and do the same thing.

To my knowledge, there is no generic for Vyvanse.

Not what you're looking for?
