Anyone have experience with this medication? My 15 yrar old grandson had been having incredible episodes of anxiety and depression. The psychiatrist is acting this to his meds to see if it helps.

It was originally developed as a medication for seizures and has been found to also be a mood stabilizer (can improve mood and/or reduce easy upsets). This leads to its use in bipolar disorder and for mood dysregulation. When it works (our son is on it for easy upsets), it can be quite helpful.

Thank you. Praying it helps because everything gets on my grandson's "nerves" Tired of him yelling or losing his temper.

How long did it take to notice a positive change?

It can be 1-3 weeks before the effect is fully appreciated.

Ok thank you. My son just started this last Friday, so hasn’t been a week yet. He is in the lowest dose 25mg. The doctor said she can only adjust it every two weeks.

Lamotrigine is slowly increased (initially every 2 weeks for the first month) based on a dosing schedule related to weight and age to minimize the chance of a 'bad' rash. We have to be patient in order to get to the daily dose that can be helpful.

I'm sure you were consulted on this but it can have serious side effects around skin breakouts. I think it's rare but my son got cold sores and we had to stop before we got to the needed level.

We are supposed to see the psychiatrist again in 2 weeks. The last two days he has been so manic at night, in and out of his room, pacing, interrupting whatever I am doing. Hoping this levels out and is not medication induced.
