I have an 18 yo daughter with adhd and anxiety and my best advise to you regarding communication is as follows :

1. Give choices

2. Correct with a positive final statement such as “ you’re awesome or you’ve got this , I believe in you , you’re the best etc”

3. Give choices and help with activation

4. Laugh and find humour as much as possible

5. Take time to go out and participate in activities together. Communicate to him/her that you’d like to go mini putting or movies etc. then let them respond to which they’d prefer ( 2 -3 choices)

6. Keep it short. Long discussions or explanations we find get tuned out then they avoid interacting with us. Give space and respect them while holding boundaries and basic rules for living in your home.

Hi! Apalmer: So, he is going to school and work too. What is the necessity expense should I cover under the house? He is testing my limit but still love and hug me. I am very struggling. Thanks for listening
