Having a huge problem getting my grandson to take his chewable vyvanse. He keeps spitting it out. Has anyone crushed a chewable vyvanse?

Children with ADHD not taking their medication is common.

If you think he would swallow a pill, you could ask to change it. Another idea some have done is put it into something like pudding.. ( mix it with something), maybe a handful of trail mix.

The issue with not taking the medication is.. a control issue.

I wonder if you ask him what he is will to take it with? Since it is not an issue to go without. Ice cream?

This is a phase that they go through. We always watch our son put it in and swallow. Not an option.

It's hard not to worry about t and go our of our way to get them to take it.

Big hug for the struggle.

Take care,

Hi there . Crushing chewables (unlike pills/ tablets) is usually ok. Then you could put it in his oatmeal or, like another suggested, icecream or something similar. My son struggled with swallowing pills and putting them in a spoonful of pudding helped. However, he was not refusing, just struggling. For you, crushing and hiding in something else should do the trick. Good luck

Let me quickly add that a quick call to the prescribing doctor or your pharmacist would be a good idea. I am certainly neither of those. Just a parent. Be well.

My son takes his medication crunched up in yogurt. I make sure to get a stronger yogurt flavor so he tastes it less. Strawberry Greek yogurt works well for our house.

We have a medicine technique we use with our kids. We put the pill/capsule in the top of an applesauce or yogurt pouch and they just squeeze and swallow the pill with the sauce/yogurt. We've never had to break up capsules, they just squirt them in.

this is common from what I’ve experienced in my brothers. we personally had to switch to a pill to swallow. this didn’t work either so they recommended putting it in a spoon of chocolate icecream.

this has worked very well. I reccomend talking to his doctor and asking for a pill to swallow (if he is able to).

My 7 year old wasn’t able to swallow a pill until i brought the icecream, lol.

try pudding or icecream.

helped mine. hope this helps
