Hi. I am new to this group. My son who is almost 7 was diagnosed in March and has been on Adderall and now Ridalin. We are having a lot of trouble in the evening after school. Any suggestions?

What kinds of problems is he having? My son is on Adderall and he needs about an hour to decompress around 4:00-5:00 when the medication wears off. I give him time to jump on the trampoline and I make sure he has a healthy snack during this time. Smoothies and high protein snacks and some free time seems to work for him so he can then focus on his homework after dinner. It is very common for kids to have about an hour of moodiness as his medication wears off. Also, children with ADHD work much harder than other kids during the school day regulating themselves and staying focused so it's not uncommon they save their worst behavior for him where they feel safe. I am a teacher and it is a common concern many parents express that their children have melt downs at home after a long school day. Hope this helps.
