I have read all about elimination of animal protein for prostate cancer but is fish included in there? It’s the only living thing I eat. I love seafood. And what about whole grain bread, wraps and other ‘carby’ foods?
Fish?: I have read all about... - Active Surveillan...
Fish?
Eleven years ago my oncologist told me to eat a healthy diet. Low in beef and simple carbohydrates. I was told not to worry about my food choices and stay way from alcohol. I was told last month that I no longer have cancer in my body. I am on active surveillance again. I had 72 radiations and 6 1/2 years of Eligard injections. I wish you well in your journey to health.
Wow that’s awesome! Congratulations. At what point in those 11 years did you have radiation and eligard therapy. I want to know if the cancer decreased with therapy, diet or both ?
Hi again, When I had PCa I had other ailments as well, diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, and Coumadin due to heart fibrillation. Each of these had specific diets to follow. My opinion is that PCa is not affected by a healthy diet, I am not sure if taking high doses of some chemical may stress the body, so normal healthy foods and exercise is recommended. I started PCa treatment with 42 radiations. Then in 2011 they did a bone scan and found metastases on my hip bones. So I had 30 more radiations and started Lupron (Eligard - generic) for 6 1/2 years. My PSA went to 0.00 where it is today. It has been 4 months now and my kidneys are getting better as well. My heart disease (stint in the left side and fibrillation on the right) is all better once again. I do go to church and I think that helps with positivity. I believe that stopping my production of testosterone, stopped the cancer cells from subdividing, they died off over time, and that is why I am cancer free. My metastatic cells attached to bones, sank into the bone, and were in a "Tomb". They could not go anywhere because of no testosterone they could not multiply. I had weakened bone at year 3 and was given 3 shots of Xgeva (one every 6 months) which is an osteoporosis drug. The radiation perforated my intestine and I had sepsis (almost died).
I did not have insurance in 2007 and they wanted $130,000 for 42 radiations. My urologist had a new machine and they charged me what medicare would pay, $30,000.
Then I had medicare for 30 more and they charged me $48! When I had sepsis the hospital wanted $22,000. but I told them I had no more money and they let it go. The doctors still charged me $2,000. So check around before you get stuck with a big bill.
We all have different types of cancer, different parts of the prostate, different insurances, different other diseases, different doctor's opinions, and different DNA. So one person's experience may not be yours. You need to listen to several doctors and make decisions on your future for yourself. We will all be here to help you, just keep truckin'.
