There has been some discussion recently about Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE) – also known as oesophageal asthma – a little known condition involving an allergic inflammation of the oesophagus and the build up of a type of white blood cells called eosinophinils. EoE seems to be occurring more frequently and can cause dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing) and chest pain, symptoms similar to achalasia. When EoE is treated, sometimes by changing diet, sometimes by taking steroids, the swallowing problems can be improved.

We are not sure how many people with achalasia have had EoE investigated and ruled out, so we are asking for people with achalasia to respond to the poll that you should be able to see on this site so that we get a better picture of the issue.

It is perfectly possible that you may not be aware of whether EoE was considered in your diagnosis or not; we just ask that you complete the survey as best you can!

Can’t seem to find the survey. EoE was the first condition suggested to me. I went dairy free, prescribed ppi meds and had biopsies taken via endoscopy.
