This youtube video entitled 10 Pro-Slavery Arguments Still Used Today is quite jaw dropping.

If you're interested in exploring the links between slavery and animal exploitation I'd recommend "the dreaded comparison" by Marjorie Spiegel.

It's still contraversial (and difficult to see how it could be easily proven so may just remain allegorical) but there is an intriguing argument that comes out of ecofeminism that human slavery originated when people had the idea of applying the same principles (eg outright slaughter or castration of males, control of reproductive capacity of females) that had been used for farmed animals to humans.
Hi Andy,
It interests me how we as a society in a developed country exploit people from developing countries and can buy clothes from a major chain store that are made with child labour giving 'us' cheap clothes at the cost of their education.
Our big multinational co's exploit developing countries by taking advantage of their needs so we make all the money from their labour.
Take for example petrol we pay a pittance for a barrel of oil and yet we own the refineries and then we put mega tax on it, which literally fuels our economy.
And food for thought, we in the developed countries have 20% of the population and yet we consume 85%+ of the worlds resources...So to me there's much more to ethical eating and shopping than animal welfare...and we are the cause and potentially and hopefully the answer.
So thanks for posting this.
