Study says 53% of Canadians moving to plant based foods
That's great, more evidence of the growth of veganism
Nothing is "safe" to eat, nowadays. Plants aren't exactly "pure" if "Plant-based" may give people a false impression that's cool to eat or "safe to eat" or kinder to ecosystem/animal welfare. There's a massive amount of info on contaminated plant-based food with agricultural pesticide/insecticide being associated with autoimmune/immune system damage and being responsible for the progressive destruction of the ecosystem. Are your fruits sprayed quite a few times before they hit the store? More than likely. Are you buying solely organic veggies and fruits? Wise, but there's no guarantee that they have not been sprayed. If the piece of tropical fruit (with an organic label on) is coming from Africa and it still looks fresh as if it was picked yesterday. . . it's definitely been sprayed.
Indeed there is no such thing as the perfect food. However not all foods are contaminated equally. It is better to concentrate on foods with proven benefits eg broccoli, berries and managing risk by reducing foods that may have downsides.
But then it is about time & cost. Not everyone can afford organic. Not everyone has the time to grow their own.
I think there is research that shows non-organic is 10% worse than organic. If I am stuck then I'll settle either when compared with meat/fish which is probably 80%-90% worse, in my book.
Part of being vegan is encouraging plant based growing. I expect plant health to improve as society moves away from dead animal "foods". New research pnas.org/content/early/2018... implies that commercial meat production is perhaps 95% inefficient compared with plant production. If we need so much less land, globally, to grow foods then the use of crop sprays could become unnecessary.
Interesting. I haven't got much interest in animal proteins these days. I have seen the study by Koreans, who suggested a certain non-toxic insecticide. I'm quite shocked by the fact that this hadn't happened after all these years. If someone is dependent on Plant-Based diet, that's essential. That was my point. I somewhat doubt when they say, "scrubbing with washing up liquid will remove the insecticide.".
Has anybody noticed the explosion of autoimmune diseases and wondered why? At least, I have enough organic fruits going in the front/backyard, not sprayed. Apparently, strawberries are one of the worst.. this made me wonder other types of berries, blueberries, in particular.
