My 12 year old son has a new jaw tic which is really painful and has caused the side of his face to swell up.

I don't know what to do apart from give him pain killers. Can anyone suggest anything please?

I can't think of anything except to try an ice pack on his jaw. It's horrible when a new tic is so upsetting. Fingers crossed that it doesn't last too long.

Hi, my 12 year old daughter has recently had the same tic. Apart from ibuprofen we had a referral to our community dentist at Poole hospital who made her a mouth guard/ gum shield. It's clear and she can wear the top or bottom one. It doesn't stop the tic exactly but she has something else in her mouth which prevents further damage to her teeth and she said it felt nice so she did get some relief. I know it's awful to watch them in so much pain, like the previous answer let's hope it doesn't last too long.

i have that same tic the only that comes to mind is a gum/mouth guard.
