Hi there everyone haven't been online for a long time, but recently my wife treated me to a good night out.We had a meal then went to a venue which was a surprise because it was a cover band off one of my favourite bands.we stood at the back near the door.l didn't think it was that loud so I never put in my earplugs.the band had a few breaks in-between. So after the gig went back to the hotel.Had a few more drinks then went to bed That night was ok ,and the next day but now my tinnitus seems louder.Could it be that I never wore earplugs or a mixture of noise , alcohol and feeling a bit rough .has anyone else felt this
Music exposure : Hi there everyone haven't been... - Tinnitus UK
Music exposure
Not from a concert but from NHS Ambulance sirens as they pass me. They seem louder but of course they are not. I'm not taking any chances so I now freeze and fingers in ears, to stop any more additional ringing afterwards. I won't be going to any more concerts. Ever. I'm not going to negotiate with tinnitus. It doesn't lend itself to do that.
this would be a completely normal reaction. Your brain had extra noise, and it thinks (in its own mysterious way) that it needs to add a bit more to your ears when things are quieter.
This is what happens to me after (say) a coach trip or a flight, where the brain has had extra noise and when this noise stops it compensates by adding its own noise. After a while this dials itself down to its normal background noise.
You might think “but that night and the next day was OK” . You were probably sufficiently occupied with other things so Mr T chose not to intrude just then but to make it up to you later.
That’s the beauty of friendship with Mr T. As Ray200 says, can’t negotiate with tinnitus.
this is spot on. Don’t over think it. A rule of thumb I was told for whether to put your ear plugs in was to consider if you feel like you need to raise your voice to be heard by someone stood 2 meters away. If the answer is yes, it would probably indicate that the plugs maybe a good idea. That said, even a bar with no music can easily end up that loud! So maybe consider a second less attenuating set of low key plugs for the lower level noise environments and then bring out the big guns if you go to a concert.
Hi Totally with you on this one, I do think certain food/drink can spike the tinnitus, hopefully it will settle back down. Definitely loud music/environments spike mine. CBT try to get me to go without earplugs in order to try and adapt (I totally disagree personally). Hope it settles back down for you.
My T doesn't like loud music. So I always wear earplugs. Hopefully this spike will quieten down for you.
Hi Doglrunne
In my experience after events like concerts or cinema etc my perception of Tinnitus felt louder but i am convinced that is because I was listening out for it. Exposure to loud noise causes hearing loss slowly so its not likely that music you were listening to had any direct correlation to you feeling an increased volume perception a couple of days later.
Enjoy your music, live your life as you would without Tinnitus and let Tinnitus perceived increase in volume come and go
