ACS plugs filter sound and have a range of decibels…. 10, 17, 27 decibels etc

Expensive but very effective

I have challenging hyperacusis and tinnitus since losing all hearing in one ear suddenly, 5 months ago. I've found Loop earplugs to be very helpful in cafes, busy high streets, supermarkets, etc. They cut down a lot of background sound, so long as you choose the right size tips. I tend to use just one in my good ear, as the other one's pretty dead now! Hope the link works - amazon.co.uk/stores/Loop/pa...

Good luck to you. My NHS hearing aid is on its way, allegedly - expecting everything to get worse before it gets better 😕

I use "quies" wax ear plugs from the chemist. I use for very noisy places. Cant hear a thing, but can tweak a bit to allow some sound .

Hi sun_1234 I use Alpine ear muffs in very noisy situations. I prefer them to plugs. They reduce noise up to 26 decibels. I carry them at all times.

Thanks for the link, doglover, I think I would also prefer ear muffs rather then ear plugs.

I realize people get on with ear plugs very well, and they are less obtrusive, it is a question of trial and error guess....I wish I knew🙃

I had a pair custom made at my audiologists which you can put different filters in. Expensive but effective.

Hi sun_1234 , I use EarDial HiFi earplugs. They take enough of an edge off the volume in noisy environments to make things bearable for me when my hyperacusis is at its worst. I like how discreet they are and they come in a nice little metal pod which I carry around on my keyring. They've been well worth the money I spent on them.

I use 'Max Lite' foam plugs by Howard Leight. Worth having a look at their website, they do a range of sizes and firmness. They might send you samples to try... it's worth asking!
