Gingko Biloba

Bought this on Tuesday. Had a tablet that night. 3 during the course of Wednesday. Thursday - T not about, morning and afternoon. Did come back early evening though. Friday, T around as usual as it is today (Saturday).

Will stop taking them now for a while. To see if this apparent 'one off' might repeat itself. Anyone had similar or better experience with Gingko?

I won't take anymore until a week hence - Saturday 28th October. By which time I hope my brain will have 'forgotten' about Gingko Biloba acting on it and the quieting effect will repeat in the same manner as before.

I have to be honest here. T was worse than usual these 2 days after the quiet and I can't rule out Gingko Biloba has had a perverse contribution to that (It might have happened anyway due to the season change). But they are not going in the bin. A few conscious hours free of T was wonderful and I want more of that if I can...

I’ve taken Gingko for years, it has no effect on my tinnitus. In several trials it’s been proven not to help with tinnitus unless you have one sided vascular tinnitus, then it can be helpful.

Thank you for your experience with it. I suppose I must be grateful that for me there was a temporary effect, to be confirmed. I think I'll leave it for 2 weeks before taking it again. If the temporary relief happens again, I'll look to shortening the time between courses. I let this site know how I get on...

After my mum died from dementia and I was told that gingko might help maintain cognitive functions I've been taking it for years. I don't know if it's helping my cognitive functions but it's definitely not made any difference to my tinnitus.

Yes. I've become aware that people are taking Gingko regularly but not for tinnitus! Yet my 'Herbal Remedies Handbook' (DK publishing) give it as the first recourse of 3 naturals for the problem. The others being mistletoe (NOT the berries) and Black Cohosh (which is a native American remedy for women's ailments including menopausal, so if it does appear in my home it will be safely locked up in the poisons cupboard).

Thanks, I never knew it was considered a tinnitus remedy. Maybe if I started to believe that then it will start working ;-)

I don't think we can lightly dismiss the association of Gingko with Tinnitus relief even if the connection is about as weak as you can get - Traditional Chinese Medicine. Aspirin and Paracetamol development was spurred on by the scarcity of the then used bark from certain trees used to reduce fever. I understand that roughly half of medicines today are derived from, or influenced by, plants.

Very possible.

Audiology scientists and practitioners will be viewing this site, so hello to them all. If any are looking for their PhD, here it is: The compounds of Gingko with a view to harnessing them for a tinnitus cure. Some compounds therein being unique to the genus.

and in the meantime see what Tinnitus UK has to say about ginkgo biloba. Incidentally there’s a GB tree growing in my daughter’s garden …. I wonder if I harvest it ???????

Not positive about any product that you can swallow, because there isn’t anything!

I took Gingko the first time . For a couple of years at least. Can't say for definite if it helped .However my T did get quieter. Whether it was time or the Gingko ,who knows. However it did help just thinking that it might work.
