So, end of February 2021 I started to hear brief periods of ringing in my ears for about a week. A bit odd I thought...and then stories of long Covid causing tinnitus happened to appear on the news almost that same week...so I went for a Covid Ab test - which was negative. So by mid-March my ringing I had deemed was not due to Covid. Which left tinnitus or Menieres disease, both of which caused me some anxiety thinking about. Anyway, long story short, the tinnitus is still with me. Like most, some days good, some days bad. I am a scientist, so began to look into this. No cure of course, as it seems it is due to the brain making up for sound signals it doesn't get...maybe this is right, maybe not. But I know one thing. Drinking alcohol helps me. A lot. After what some people might consider a substantial amount of alcohol, my tinnitus fades to 1-2 out of 10. Compared to pre-drinking 6-7 out of 10. Its not a healthy, or long term, solution, I know...and it shouldn't even work apparently given the vasodilation effects of alcohol but it helps me without a doubt. And in the absence of any reliable medical intervention, its currently my only option. Stuff what my GP says about he ill effects, she doesn't have what sounds like a a high pressure water pipe spurting water into her ears every minute of the day. 7 months in now habituation. Regs, GW

Hi , you seem to be on the right road for coping well . Well done. You say your a Scientist !!!! Even better !!!! We need people like yourself to help us find a cure for this dam wretched tinnitus . 😂
Welcome. I'm glad you've found something that works for you but every theory needs testing so I'm off to tesco to get a few bottles .. Joking apart you have to do whatever you can. We all do. I find a small glass in the evening very relaxing.
I also find Alcohol helps - a few beers definitely relaxes me, I think that might be why - without a doubt tinnitus is fed by anxiety and stress, as I’ve said many many many many many times on this forum deal with the anxiety and the stress and the perceived tinnitus intrusion seems reduced.
Hi. I don't think alcohol makes any difference to my T. I don't really get hangovers either. I need to lose some weight so I've not been drinking and the positive feeling of losing the weight has I think helped ... Something positive to focus on perhaps.
My T is bad at the moment and I have the full ears and odd disorientation, pressures in head they I get intermittently as well. Full set really.
Glass a wine defo helps me to relax t drops but also can raise it up too have to find a balance 3 years in not so much bothered now think lm habitation to it at last still get days were l get down especially when tired
Hi Palmeiras...how did I get T? A good question. IF, and I feel its a big IF, it is due to loss of some hearing frequencies, then most likely it was caused by listening to loud music through headphones as a youngster I guess.
