As it happens I travelled to Dublin for my assessment on the same day as Ade was having his figment. Ryanair managed to completely screw up my flight and I arrived late and stressed out but the staff were immensely kind. The audiologist I met was the lead researcher on the project and I have to say was the most knowledgeable, patient, understanding and hopeful medical professional I have met on my year long journey with this dreadful noise in my head. During my hearing assessment she noticed something which indicated to her that a hearing aid with white noise injected into it might sort my problem and that I should try that first before the tongue stimulating kit si that is what I am going to do. There was no pressure, no hard sell and everything was painstakingly explained. The kit was shown to me so that I can think about what to do next if the hearing aid doesn't help. I already understood the pricing but the one slight surprise is that the 'lollipop' needs to be renewed regularly so if the regime you end up on involves sustained use then although you own the kit it still costs something like E500 a year to keep using it. I will post again as I follow Neuromod's advice.
