Hi all

Does tinnitus get worse as you age? I read on another forum that it does but then on tinnitus talk i read it doesn't and depends on the individual.

Does it get worser with age?

Heres the links to the other forums

This forum says it does get worser with age

patient.info/forums/discuss...

And on TT they say it depends on the individual.

In my case it certainly has and i believe that is the general consensus.

Same as most incurable illnesses unfortunately.

The talk I had at the tinnitus service was that it was commonly developed on retiring. It is 20 plus years until I reach pension age. So I had similar concerns. The literature suggests that you get used to the noise & balance issues over time.

I spoke with my audiologist who said theres no proof it gets worser with age and those he knows who have had it go worser is not due to age but something that caused it to get worse like noise trauma, medication, ear infection ect.

He said not to worry as theres no link between age and worser T. I have 40yrs before i retire as im in my 20's.

That is reassuring. I developed loud tinnitus this year due to construction noise exposure at place of employment. I have had tinnitus in spells since I was a student - mainly linked to sinus issues.
