Regain hearing

Hi, I have severe low frequency tinnitus and visited an event in my town for tinnitus. The guy that did the test was lovely and I was there for over an hour. However because it is low frequency he said it is hard to mask. He said he could help me and would be charging £4,500. I feel vulnerable because of it and have had it since March, bur not sure I can invest in that much money. Has anyone else been to Regain hearing for tinnitus and did it help?

I think an important thing to bear in mind is that there is no 'cure' for tinnitus and unless it has a particular known cause nothing that can help other than the usual cognitive therapys eg: mindfulness etc.

I have had severe loud T for over a year now and will only take help or advice either from my Dr, hospital audiologist or from this website.

I always bear in mind that sadly there are many people in this world that are more than happy to make money out of other people's disadvantages.

I think you might find you would struggle to find anyone who actually has felt any improvement from any of these 'practioners' for a better word.

Speak to your GP first would be my advice.

Jill, I could be equally "lovely" for £4,500!

I'd even throw in coffee and biscuits!

Seriously though, I reckon you would be better off spending the money on a good holiday - a much better and more enjoyable distraction for your T.

Hi jill29 I’ve not been to Regain but my questions are what did the guy offer to do or give you in place of masking that he will charge you £4,500 for? Personally I wouldn’t outlay anywhere near that amount without some guarantees of success. My experiences with free NHS help and advice has been fairly good so far. Some private clinics are just out to make a profit out of people’s misery in coping with T noises whether low or loud. Tread very carefully!

Hi, Jill29,

£4500??? I don't know if what he's offering would lessen your tinnitus but it would certainly reduce your bank balance. You could probably buy a decent small car for that price or have a very nice holiday. At the very least you need carry out due diligence and find out all you can about the company and, if possible, speak to some of their successful patients. As others have said it's best to speak to GP/ENT dept and check out the BTA website.

Respectfully submitted,

Keoni

Jill if you want to call the BTA Helpline to chat about this please do.

It's for this reason we're holding the Tinnitus Expo, to give you the chance to see what is on the market, recommended and known to help tinnitus risk free.

I'm sure the man will have a perfectly good explanation handy when you try to get your 4,000 £ back, which he will make up later!
