Hi David,

If I were you I wouldn't waste my money on any of these expensive so-called intolerance tests.

It makes sense that if it were possible to perform such things, the NHS would be doing so as it would be greatly advantageous to it in terms of both time and money.

If you want to spend a lot of money for no good reason, and then give yourself a hard time eliminating all the foods to which you're supposed to be 'intolerant' but are probably not, then this is the route to go down. It’s just more snake oil - and there's a lot of it out there!

The best, and by far the cheapest, way to uncover any food intolerances is to follow an elimination diet such as FODMAPs and the NHS can help with this.

Totally agree with Cat in that you would be wasting your money on food intolerance kits. I am looking into the FODMAP diet myself, albeit am a little confused at present with the Maestro App that I have on my phone but I will get there.

Without following a diet as such I have learnt that raw carrots, sweetcorn, raw onions are a definite no no for me and I can only eat very small amounts of broccoli.

Best of luck

Hi again Alicia,

Have you tried the FODMAP app from Monash, it's so easy to follow as it's a traffic light guide?

No I haven't, I have the Food Maestro one that was recommended but I don't know how to use it. The one thing that concerned me about the Monash one was that it would have foods that you cannot get in the UK, have you had any problems?

It's true that the Monash app does have some foods that you can't buy here, but it tests continually and updates the app accordingly.

When I tried it (before I got to the root cause of my problem), it was adding more and more UK foods all the time.

Thank you Cat and appreciate your response, I will have a look at that one to download on to my phone.

I hope you don't mind me asking (you have probably said to me before) but what was the root cause of your problem?

Thanks

Alicia

Yes, we did have an exchange a couple of weeks ago. My probs were down to use of an artificial progesterone cream to prevent night sweats, I'm now at 6 months non-use and things continue to improve. I'd say the improvement so far has been 80%+.

Ah yes, of course, and sorry to ask you again. I stopped using my cream approximately 6 weeks ago now. I was using Serenity Cream by Wellsprings.

Thank you again

Hi there yes I have. I had the 40+ foodprint although you can pay more to be tested on more foods. I personally found it useful and supportive at a time of worry and frustration. It confirmed I was sensitive to wheat and dairy like I thought and a few other things. I didn't find NHS useful but it depends on your doctor. Apart from testing for ceoliac they were not interested in allergy testing etc sometimes when you want some answers for yourself you have to pay for it! They send you a detailed report afterwards and guidance. I do follow FODMAP too.

Not what you're looking for?
