Well this might not have anything to do with the IBS and more to do with the fact that she is a teenager!!! I have a 17 year old and she doesn't have IBS, but still gets mood swings, lol!! If it gets worse, get her to go to the docs for a checkup. Hope it sorts itself out. :)

I had mood swings as a teenager and suffering with IBS. Yes it could be the IBS or just being a teenager OR both!!

Living with IBS is very uncomfortable and causes great pain and discomfort at times. Understandably this gets you down and comes on you very sudden at times.

Like the others have said this could be teenage hormones. Have you noticed if the moods correspond with her monthly cycle? or just at the times she has ibs? and does the ibs correspond to her monthly cycle?

Take her to see a nutritionist or naturopath who can help find out which vitamins and or minerals she is likely deficient in. Magnesium, zinc and a multi VIT may help.

If you get magnesium spray she can use it on her abdomen to help with the IBS pain too.

TCM or 5 Element Acupuncture will also help dramatically on mood and pain.

I agree with other posts - could be the hormones but also worth thinking could her blood sugars be low? - is she eating regularly? and well? When my IBS is bad (D) I think my temper is much shorter, part of it is probably sleep - I don't get a lot since IBS started, but when food going through me fast I don't think I absorb properly what I eat and I'm sure it does not help. It must be really difficult for you daughter having IBS with all the pressures of being a teenager and trying it fit in and be liked - I wonder if some days she might snap just because she has had a bad experience or something has happened and its playing on her mind. Hope it gets easier for you both soon.

Hi there I am 21 and I have had ibs for 10 years now and I find I get mad mood swings. The best way to deal with them I find if she has mood swings when her tummy hurts is to give her peppermint oil capuals I have forgot the name but you can buy them in most supermarkets and I find there the best ones. I would not get atni depressents as they can cause dyahra. The best thing all together I find is accupuncher I have tried accupuncher and hipnoses and accupuncher is amazing for mood wings, bowl movments , cramps the whole lot but hipnoses is crap its not worth the money if you ask me hope the advise is useful sorry about my bad spelling and gramma as I hav been messaging in and out of work.

There seems to be a link with wheat and schizophrenia. I had fits of rage myself when I ate whole wheat bread. Whether you call it mood swings, bipolar or schizophrenia it is the result of GMO grains and and/or grasses also being fed to the animals we eat or get milk and eggs from. The problem now is so many products contain wheat and it can accumulate. "Organic" is no longer safe.

Tried to copy some links here for you but it did not work. I'll copy and type in as soon as I can.

Here are two...BTW, I had been diagnosed with IBS many years ago and have had to change eating habits but because the food is constantly changing adjustments are necessary.
