My idea to easily diagnose endometriosis from home

Hi everyone, my name is Ellen Hutton. I am a current Biomedical Science student currently working on a university project to develop a business plan. My idea is to create a business to consumer non-invasive diagnostic service for endometriosis using markers found in menstrual blood. The process would involve ordering a collection kit through our app, which would be received the next working day. Menstrual blood would then be collected using a menstrual cup from one of our recommended brands. The individual would then pour their blood into the collection vessel and the package would then be sent to our lab for analysis. The user would then receive in-app feedback on the likelihood of them having endometriosis and guidance, including next options. The app will contain other features including symptom monitoring, newsfeed updates about endometriosis etc.

It would be amazing to hear feedback on my idea from people who suffer from the condition themselves. If you think this is a good idea, or have any other ideas for features you think would be helpful, please do let me know! 😊

I think this is a really great idea for a study. My only concern would be the insertion of the cup to collect menstrual blood samples. Often times, women who suffer of endometriosis also suffer of muscle spasms and tightness in the vagina. Wearing tampons, having sex, and a regular pelvic exam is painful. Do you maybe have another idea or method of how to collect a sample that wouldn't require a foreign object being inserted into the vagina without ruining the sample? This might be something to think about and brainstorm! :)

This sounds like a great idea for sure. Especially if the data created can lead to a credible diagnosis. That GP’s can then use to make referrals to specialists quicker.

I also think there’s a huge need for ongoing support after diagnosis, with a more integrated approach. So an app offering support with symptom tracking and tips on management would be very helpful for those struggling. I have also been brainstorming an idea for an app for specifically managing endometriosis pain and symptoms. Because there’s just nothing in place within our healthcare system. I really believe pain and symptoms can be managed (and in time overcome,) with the practice of mind-body connection and parasympathetic regulation are introduced and maintained daily. Alongside the routine pain medication, supplements and self care recommended by specialists.

Let’s get these apps going!! To help empower anyone who needs it to get diagnosed quicker and have the best resources available to help with management and integrated treatment to allow a much better quality of life living with endometriosis.

I hope it goes well! And happy to offer any further feedback if needed :)
