Coronavirus : Good day everyone I just tested... - TB Alert
Coronavirus
Hello Ehinoma - I can understand your worries, but treatment for Corona virus is just stay isolated as there is nothing they can really do apart from you taking pain relief for your head. The TB you had two years ago and hopefully treated for will not cause it come back. The only caution is if you were left with lung damage and your test for virus interferes with your breathing. So try to relax because at the moment I understand your breathing is ok? Isolation and keeping well at home is all you need to do for. Try not to worry for now and keep safe x
Hi I tb when I was a child and most of my family had it, my father was in hospital for 9 months. This was 40years ago ..but 15 years ago my father had tb again which I thought you couldn’t get it again but you can. So as you can imagine like everyone else am concerned if we should all be at high risk concerning Coronavirus having latent or active pulmonary tuberculosis
Hi Marypoppins1, Yes, unfortunately having TB once does not make you immune to getting it again. There are many many different strains of TB bacteria and everyone who has it is put into a database belonging to that particular strain. For us here in the UK, its a way of monitoring what is going on and where it is coming from.
Having latent TB does not put you at more risk, but active TB does, simply because both conditions TB / Corona effect the lungs causing problems with your breathing. I hope this helps explain a little .
Thanks for your reply but am in Scotland, but latent tb can become active at anytime as I said my father did have it again which we were all led to believe that you couldn’t and even when he was diagnosed again the consultant was shocked...
Thanks for your concern I really appreciate God bless
If you are a nurse you will I hope have the capacity to know when to get urgent assistance if your breathing is STARTING to become difficult........ and get the oxygen
mask on......... I firmly believe that time is of the essence if anyone's breathing is laboured due to the lungs not being able to oxygenate the blood. I hope you get an improvement in the infection and that your lungs are not badly affected but if you sense any laboured breathing seek assistance immediately the same as Boris Johnson who has got an oxygen mask on to help him breath. He is not on a ventilator yet but I would wager there is one nearby should he need it!
Okey thanks I appreciate , but didn’t get any medication only for the headache I got medication, I pray the virus will leave my body soonest in this 14 days time
You are better placed than most re your breathing but you more than likely already know what I've advised as an ex diver! If you start to feel your breathing is not normal don't feel lenient with that symptom. Get help........ You saw our prime minister is already on oxygen which is obviously helping him keep his blood oxygen level up where it should be. If blood oxygen level decreases badly the organs start to suffer. I hope your resistance is good and you get rid of the infection soon.
I'm 79 and had a very bad chest this mid January. Others are asking same as me was it the C virus? I heard of a lady coughing for 3 months same time as my 3 week bad 'chest'. No antibiotics ever cured a virus. Plenty of vitamin C and fluids and keep warm. I had the Asian flue that killed 14000 in the UK in 1957-58.
It sounds like you need plenty of sleep and rest. Plenty of fluid. Take good care of yourself. Try not to worry about having had TB. We just need to make sure we get help if we have difficulty breathing.
Use this time at home to rest. I hope you will soon feel much better.
Hi Ehinoma,
How are you feeling now? It is true that there is no medication proven to treat covid-19 but there is much that can be done to support your body's ability to fight it. Try not to worry about your history of TB. As long as you were not left with lasting lung damage, which you would most likely be aware of, your ability to fight covid-19 should not be impaired.
Best wishes,
Helen
