Hey I’m really struggling with recovery. I’m in recovery for my ED but I’m struggling with the fact that I am gaining weight. I don’t know how to cope with the gain.

Its really hard - are you getting "professional" help? If so - its putting your trust in them - which I know is really, really scary - but they are the "doctors" giving you the "treatment" you need - and my dietician told me that its amazing how much food you need to gain weight - but also - they regulate the amount taken according to sensible weight objectives - and when you've reached a "normal/acceptable" weight they tailor your diet to meet your needs to balance your weight. So don't let fear prevent your recovery - will be praying for you.

May I ask how much you were recommend to consume calories wise? I wasn't ever told what you were though I knew it from reading empirical research when I started out trying to do it myself...but it just helps to hear what others were recommended to hush my head when it goes into justification mode!

Each of us require different calories according to height, build and activity level - so me giving you my calories isn't necessarily what you require - but I do suggest you seek help from a specialist dietician who will guide you - this also helped me in quieting my demons - I saw it as medical advice - and also found once I'd got and stuck to a meal plan it became "normal" - and amazingly what I saw as a vast amount didn't cause me to gain huge amounts - and I had plateau times when I had to add to my base diet - the usual guide for weight maintenance is around 2,000 - but to increase 2,500 - 3,000 per day. It also needs to be balance nutrient wise ie carbs, protein, fats etc. ABC have a dietician so it might be worth contacting them.

I wasn’t really given a calorie goal for the day because I wasn’t underweight. The goal wasn’t really for me to gain weight, it was to maintain a healthy eating schedule I guess? It’s just really screwing me up because I’m a dancer and performer so any weight change is frustrating because it throws off my balance and my costumes.... do you mind if I private message you?
