How do you know when it is time to let our beautiful children fly solo without feeling guilty?

Lori716, you will ALWAYS feel guilty...children having Eating Disorders or not. They are human beings, who do deserve the chance to fly solo, hey if it doesn't work out they can always come home.

Some strategies need to be put in place, for all of you..

1. They HAVE to be in some sort of treatment (counselling etc)

2. You are only a phone call away (limit these to once a day)

3. You can always "pop" in once a week (might be more often, at the start)

What are you really feeling guilty about? ??

Hi lori716, I don't see it ever happening. Unless they have a support system (not an enabler) I don't see how they could survive at any age. The other night I received a text from my daughter that she had collapsed in the parking lot of a grocery store next to her car. When she got home, she immediately started hydrating to bring up her potassium levels that were already critically low. She refuses help and yet lets me know every detail of each day's events. It is unbelievably hard for both of us to live this way. I worry everyday that I will get a call that she passed away. Have you been able to let go and what were the ramifications of doing that? I wish you well...

Hello Agora1 - it's soo sad what you and your daughter go through. If there was a sliding scale sounds like you 2 are at the top :( God forbid you don't get hit by a bus crossing the road tomorrow (I'm sure you've already thought of this) your daughter will have to rely on herself. Could you think of contacting ABC themselves for yourself, I'm sure they could help you. I really feel you need some answers on "Plan b" Ask questions like "if something happens to me and or my husband, what will happen to our daughter?" I'm sure you will be offered counseling for you as well (or given ideas where to go for you) please accept all this advice. I hope you are well and all of you are ok ♡
