I would like to share my story to invite any advice. I was diagnosed with COPD three years ago, but I already knew my smoking was slowing me down. I was put on Salamol and Atrovent inhalers and although I cannot walk a long way without catching my breath I accepted my lot. Then in September the nurse

I can't cope with this much more!
Evening all, I hope everyone is ok. I have just been discharged from hospital, and I'm struggling again (been to acute medicine clinic today for nebs). I've lost count of the number of admissions now but I have just had enough, of bouncing in and out of hospital, of not being able to work...not being

How to approach GP
Hi, A bit of a random question but I am wondering if anyone can share any experiences/has any advice. After a meltdown with my asthma nurse today, she asked me what I wanted (except a cure). This took me by surprise so didn't really know what to say however we had a long chat about trying to get a

Palpitations with Atrovent/Spiriva vs Ventolin
So - not looking for medical advice, more personal experience. My cons had me taking Atrovent for preference over Ventolin; he was considering Spiriva if I am still not controlled after this pred course of 4 weeks. Then when I was admitted a few weeks ago the resp reg decided to start Spiriva anyway

Atrovent and Spiriva?
Hi, My gp has just changed me over to spiriva to take once a day from atrovent 4 times a day. Was wondering whether anyone has any experiences as whether it has helped get more control? I have been told that the spiriva replaces atrovent as it is a long acting version of the same drug. Compared

Snakes and Ladders
Title is because this is what it feels like atm - I climb a small ladder then go down a big snake!! I'm seeing my cons next week - ughh what fun, need not say I would rather be having root canal or swimming with crocodiles. I'm pretty frustrated atm: a few weeks ago my breathing was NOT good to the

Atrovent inhaler.
Hi My son Thomas is on seretide 125, nedocromil, flixonase and ventolin. Since the weather started turning he already has had 1 course of steroids and is now on his first admission of this autumn/winter season. Last year he had quite a few admissions. Is anyone on Atrovent inhaler - have you found

Brittle asthma, Anaphylaxis and the royal Brompton
Hello all, I haven't posted on here in quite some time, I'd sort of given up on trying to get any advice about my asthma. Over the eight week summer holiday period, I spent four weeks in hospital. After my last admission a couple of weeks ago I went home feeling tired, but my chest felt good, for over

When to take nebs
Hi, I'm probably being very silly here but sometimes I don't know when to take my nebs. I have had a hard time lately with my asthma and suspected bronchiectasis (not diagnosed yet as I am waiting for a CT scan but a lot of my symptoms point to it). I have days where I feel fine and days where I feel

have been diagnosed with COPD in 2007 and got for the start Salamol. But no one has really told me about that it can be very serious. Two steps forward and one back
Hi all, Sorry if this turns into a bit of a moan but I feel like I am at a bit of a dead end asthma wise when I know it should not be this way. For those who don't know, basically, I have had asthma for over 25 years (since I was 2) and have been up and down the treatment ladder including being on

Getting the best treatment now.
I was diagnosed 8 years ago with copd and was prescribed salbutamol and atrovent. I struggled with my breathing and on more than one ocassion I have asked my doctor if there was any other medicine that might make a difference and he always maintained that I was on the right medication for my condition

Soph's POSITIVE cons apt :-)
Heya all, As some of you will probably know, Soph is having a pretty rough time with uncontrolled asthma and far too frequent serious hospital admissions. She also has had a lot of bad luck with consultant appointments, and like (I suspect) a lot of us, struggles to articulate how things really are

Should I stay or should I go now
I have been struggling all last week with my asthma and hay fever obviously the current very high and high pollen count and hot weather are not helping me. Unfortunately, things are getting worse for me, yesterday I used a total 26 puffs Bricanyl reliever for the day, and a total of 10 nebs for the day

Not again - Prednisolone increased
I have been suffering terribly this week with asthma and hay fever and have been using up to 28 puffs Bricanyl inhaler (reliever) a day and up to 10 nebs using Atrovent and Bricanyl nebules a day. My Prednisolone has been increased on Saturday to 40mg, bang goes my Prednisolone reduction for a while,
