My GP Dr Sharyn Dimmock did a punch biopsy in May 2009, my symptoms started in August 2008.

In all fairness to Dr Dimmock, I visited her about my "rash" in August 2008 and didn't return to see her about it again till May 2009. I thought the rash was some sort of allergy or contact dermatitis and tried many creams and home remedies for relief as I'd read that skin rashes can take up to 6 months to resolve so I didn't want to rush back to the doctor about it. By the time I went back in May 2009 I suspected there was something seriously wrong as I'd lost a lot of weight, my hair was falling out, the rash which was only a patch the size of a lemon on one upper arm on my first visit had now covered both my upper arms from shoulder to elbow, and it had popped up on both my knees and the edges of my ears. I felt very nauseas all the time, had bad headaches daily and was getting very little sleep due to fevers, sweating and painful itch. Dr took one look and within 5 mins I was on a table getting a bit of skin punched out of me and she was very concerned. I felt like I had stepped into an alternative world that day because I went there thinking I was probably only going to get a script for a new cream or ointment. The bigger shock came 4 days later when I went for the results and she said my dear you have something that is as rare as hens teeth. She wrote me a referral to the specialist, but that night he called me and said come to my office at 7 tomorrow morning and the rest is history.

Hi jerrybelle, your experience of SS sounds horrendous. I hope that your treatment has worked.

I was recently diagnosised at Salford Royal following a biology by dr Ling .this was the third biology test I had . I have started on a high dose of reducing steroids and the rash is clearing up so finger crossed it is just a one off and the sweets will go . I am really struggling as I have also been diagnosed with light sensivity and I used to spend most of my summer watch my local cricket club and not I am in door with the curtains close hiding from the bright sunshine

Hi 0573,

Some patients with Sweet's syndrome do have to be careful about overexposure to sunlight or UV light. This is because it can occasionally trigger the development of new skin lesions. I don't know if that is what you mean by light sensitivity, but I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling with it.

Michelle.
